Formula 1 2009 season - 27 March 2009 10:50
With the new season starting this sunday, what are your predictions?
With a load of new rule changes it should make for a very exciting campaign. Im genuinely excited this year which is something that i havent felt for quite some time now.
Im goin to predict a strong Ferrari challenge this year with Raikonnen getting more involved in a 3 way race with Hamilton and Massa. (not hard to predict but i cant see it any other way)
I also wouldnt rule out Alonso having more to do with the standings this year. Theres also a lot of other promising drivers on the fringe, Kubica could put a good show on and i hope Vettel is given a decent car to play with.
Im not going for the whole Jenson Button and Brawn GP tales either, massive floppage imo... Mclaren and holding back, im sure of it. We'll see in qualifying and in the race.

I think i tried a similar thread last year and it died quickly... We have a British world champ now and F1's popularity has increased massively so show some interest...

I feel pretty much the same way. I'd be very suprised if Button wins. Should be an interesting first few races

not sure how i feel about some of the rule changes...
someone could win 6 races in the yr, but then finish outside of the podium places  in the rest, yet still beat someone who has a few wins, but consistently finishes in the podium positions... not sure about that.. i preferred the pts system..

but yeh should be an interestig season..

Re:Formula 1 09/10 season - 27 March 2009 10:55
given the protests of some of the teams over a few things other teams have come up with, then im going to say they are really worried.  preseason testing has hamilton way down on lap times.

im going to say that the first couple of races will be pretty much anyones for the taking.

im thinking top runners this year will be massa, alonso, button, with hamilton struggling for a few races.  kubica has the potential to be right up there. dont think we will see much from raikonnen personally

Hasn't that rule change been postponed to the following year?

But yes I agree with what you are saying

I should add that for those dont know, the new idea of the podium finishing rule has been dropped for the time being and that have reverted back to the original points system.

i hate hamilton

Harsh but i can see why some people may think that.
Personally im not a fan either, Ive always been a Raikonnen and Alonso fan as they are just racers and dont care about media or celebrity status. My feelings towards Hamilton have dropped even more recently after he commented on the possibility of leaving Mclaren due to their 'poor' performances. (which i personally believe is all make believe anyway and the whole thing is mind games).

I will be honest and say i have a strong dislike to Jenson Button. Ive tried to support him but i just cant take to the guy. Too flash and the hair styles and dodgy beard scream out attention seeker. Hopefully he will have decent car and Rubens will hand his ar5e to him. (which i also doubt anyway, another season at the back of the grid imo)

I have always been a massive Ferrari fan and loved the schuey years. Hamilton's a total ass, never like him from day one. I have never liked button either, but Ross Brawn was instrumental with Ferrari's success and I think he can do it again, Barrichello has had his chances imo, so I am going for Button and Ferrari 123 this year, although I think there will be 5 drivers fighting it out till the last couple of races, could be the best season for a long time!

First race could be anyone.

u dislike button cos he does his hair and has a beard??
he's just got some style, imo doesnt mean he's attention seekin at all..can understand the deal with hamilton, he is a self assured, c0cky little b*stard, but he backs it up with his skill and i dont mind people people bein like that as long as they can back it up..

when i heard that, i actually detest the guy.  he had started to grow on me, but that just took the piss.  here is a team that have given him EVERYTHING, a golden handshake into formula one, past the normal way of doing things.  he owes his entire sucess down to them.  a couple of testing sessions where they are off the pace, and hes saying things like that.

he should have toed the team line, said that they would progress quickly and be fighting for the championship same as always.  If i  was a sponsor i would have probably pulled my funding for him saying that.

why?  they were pretty much the most boring races.  schumacher is a sore loser and poor sportsman, and shouldnt have had all the championship wins he had.  hi 'crash' which won him a championship for example.

in fact id go so far as to say that the years where he dominated killed F1 for alot of people, and it lost alot of fans.  Only now is the fan base recovering and its becoming popular again.

I read an article the other day. Basically it was gauging the reactions of the drivers once the decision to overturn the new points system was enforced.

It read something along the lines of

"It was impossible to tell if Raikonnen was happy with the decision as there was no emotion on his face!"

I dont think t've every seen emotion on his face

one thing i did hate with hamilton was when he finished the final race last yr and knew he had wont the championship..got out his car, ran right past his dad who was hangin over railings t hug him, ran to his team and brother and u could just see his dad lookin on .. just felt that was a bit harsh seein as his dad comes across as his number 1 fan, and he just dint seem t care..

must admit i hadnt heard about what he said about mclaren and leaving them..
all other stuff tho, his cockyness and flash lifestyle etc i dont mind.. i say fair play t him, when he starts t get too big for his boots is when it'll become annoyin.. but at the moment imo he is entitled to a bit of cockyness and flashness..

Well I guess if you weren't a schumacher fan then it may have been boring, you can't deny that the guy is an incredible driver, his record tells you that. Yes he did on occasion puch the boundaries, sometimes he was penalised, sometimes not. The guy didn't like losing, whats wrong with that? He didn't always have the best car, far from it in some seasons, yet he still won. He is the best driver to have gotten in an F1 car, and history would back that up.

I know mate, it p1ssed me of no end!
Without Ron Dennis taking him on at such a young age, i doubt Hamilton would be in F1 at all. No matter how bad Mclaren are, he should sign a deal for life.
Iirc, in his first season Hamilton was on £250k from Mclaren and he said that money didnt matter and he was there to repay the faith that Ron Dennis had in him. To a point (if you believe that he has turned down sponsors, as said in the papers) that is still true, but now it could boil down to success he is talking of jumping ship...??
If Hamilton ever leaves Mclaren through choice of his own then i hope he fails miserably as i for one will support anyone else.

and he should have one less championship win than he actually has.

Season will be a joke as the FIA cant even remember the regulation for the defuser for the under carriage, so they will keep the rest of them happy by screwing over McClaren by making some sort of...all your points dont count as we changed our minds and you cheated...this after they U turn on the driver with most wins takes all....fcukin idoits.

And why the hate for Hamilton?...he a brilliant british talent and hold the championship in his second year!

He will accomplish more for the sport than Alonso Riki winning would.

Tho I fancy Alonso's chances this year, Riki's a dick, simple as, not wanting to talk or give interviews, sponsors nightmare.

Would like Massa at some point get a few championships, him and Lewis battleing it out every season is alot more fun.

And get the stories right guys, Hamilton rubbished all those claims, and said he had no intention of leaving McClaren, and what if he does?...look at how Alsonso just quite and chucked in his Contract, its the business, always has always will be, but I dont see Hamilton moving, gunny how it didnt even come from his PR people.

if it were me, i would be so glad to be in F1 and doing something i love, that i would stay with that team that gave me the opportunity for as long as they wanted me.  He has been gifted his F1 drive, and while he is a good driver, that is in no small part due to the time ron and mclaren have put into him.  most people with a decent amount of natural talent given his backing would be the same imo.

To come out and slate his team before the season has even started is so far wrong i cant put it into words.  IMO hamilton is one of those people that thinks HE is the real star, and that the sucess is down to him not the team.  Thats what he really thinks imo.  But fact is, team are everything in F1.  i predict another season or two and the team will be so disillusioned with his self obsessed attitude and believe its all about him, that they wont offer him the support he needs.  i know i wouldnt.

While he may have only been on 250k in his first season his earnings will have been much much greater.  And this brings us onto why i dislike him.  his denial that he has no interest in fame or money, yet he appears on tv shows, etc etc.  they (him and his family) are cashing in on his new found fame as much as possible imo, so why not just be honest about it??

I dont go hating other drivers, I find it amazinf people cant feel HATE towards him lol, and yea of course his PR did the whole taking his words back thing, as expected, then he had to grumble out a few lines, nut im willing to bet this is all a wind up to throw the other teams off, Renault Ferrari etc etc, all bring out differeing lap times in the past to throw the pack off.

Then I did say it most likely Alonso will win and that I want to see out Massa Carreer with him and Hamilton battleing ever season.

And the known dramam queen has been Button at Honda, that been reported alot over the years.

Apparently he earned 1 million in his first season, but that doesn't include endorsments which are estimated to be at 75-100 million a year. I don't know where you got that he turns down endorsments from.

Why do you think he has moved out of the uk for tax purposes?

Hamilton wont win anything this year, not a single race never mind a championship. And to be fair to Button, he has been at the back of the grid for a fair while now, never complaining, I dount Hamilton will have the same perseverance. He is a spoilt kid.

I do have a little anecdotal story about Hamilton. At the british last year, a mate of mine, who's aunty or something like that does the mclaren catering at silverstone, or was doing some function or other. Anyway, Hamilton orders via an underling a bottle of powerade to be brought to him, so my mate is given this task and takes said bottle to him, however it's the wrong colour bottle, and instead of saying oh sorry I wanted a blue one or red one or whatever, Hamilton screams and swears at him in a complete kiddy fit. My mate was having none of it and told him to f off.

That is how he behaves behind closed doors

yeah he is, but i think that is born out of frustration, of knowing that so many times they have nearly had a competative car, and reliability and consistency have been a problem.

i hope mclaren are on the pace, the more cars that are the better.  But i dont think they will be.  brundle was talking about it the other day, after he had watched the cars in testing etc.  He is pretty honest with his reporting, and would have said if he suspected that is what they were doing.  and lets face it, hes in a better position than any of us to say whats going on with the teams in F1!!

Every driver doesnt reside in their home country for tax reasons lol.

And how can you jsut say he wont win anything this year lol, it might be a tough year techincally and the first half wont mean anything, this is how Ferrari started out most seasons to make up for it with a better car i nthe second half of the season, and what usually makes the whole race more interesting and fun.

And how can you jsut say he wont win anything this year lol, it might be a tough year techincally and the first half wont mean anything, this is how Ferrari started out most seasons to make up for it with a better car i nthe second half of the season, and what usually makes the whole race more interesting and fun.

Are you referring to the Powerade story, no I can assure you it is 100% the truth, who is going to report it exactly, do you think every inch of silverstone is bugged? lol

Well I guess if you weren't a schumacher fan then it may have been boring, you can't deny that the guy is an incredible driver

Superb driver and a pleasure to watch. I disliked his win "by fair means or foul" mentality though. It's a bit like the 2 Man Utd central defenders tbh. If the guys going past you, bring him down.

Apparently he earned 1 million in his first season, but that doesn't include endorsments which are estimated to be at 75-100 million a year. I don't know where you got that he turns down endorsments from.

Why do you think he has moved out of the uk for tax purposes?

I know, that doesnt make sense what i put before and the more ive thought about it, i see it as a rubbish comment to justify himself. Hamilton claimed last week that he wasnt in the sport for the money and that he had been offered many many sponsorship opportunitys that he had turned down. He claimed he had the right balance of sponsorship, money and work....
Your right though, why move to Switzerland then...
Im disliking him more and more as the seasons go by, i think ill be a hater too in a few years. lol

First race predictions....
Raikonnen
Hamilton
Trulli (?, dont know, he's a surprise package).

I always felt sorry for Barracello being his number 2, he was literlly a fall and hold em guy, and sdeserved much better success at Ferrai I think.
