Full Body Routine or Push Pull Legs 19 January 2012 17:45 (permalink)
I can only get to gym most weeks every 3rd day ie Mon Thu Sun or Tue Fri Sat  etc due to work commitments, would I be better off doing fullbody routine or push pull legs I'm 42 been training on and off for a good few years if that makes any difference.

Either, both are very good ways of training. I'd recommend a clear rest day between sessions whichever way you go to give you enough recovery time, especially at your age  .......I'm 47 myself so I'm sure you'll forgive me that one.

It's more about the content of your routine, if you base it around compounds with progression you'll not go far wrong.

What are your goals? Are you after strength/mass/general fitness?

              id go full body routine

sometimes life happens and you cant get in three days a week (39 myself)...so you can end up missing a back or leg day. at least if you do full body's and you do it twice a week you have nt missed any body part.

they are also more taxing metabolically

I wouldn't put too much effort into working out what routine is best, just do one and then after 8-12 weeks change it. You get better results this way as constantly confusing the body. Full body more for a beginner than push pull legs but then again do to what I just said good for experienced lifters as well if that's a change for them. Just pick a routine that has some good following and then change to another one, I do a routine for 8 weeks take a week off then do another 4 weeks then change routine and exercises. Just my opinion and that...

Edit - You get people that say only do bi's on back day and only do tri's on chest day, I'm doing it the other way round at the mo just to confuse the **** out of my muscles, don't do things the same all the time as the body adapts
