Gloves for females 21 January 2012 22:51 (permalink)
Hi, my wife needs some new gloves for training. She has tried some Shiek 540 Platinum gloves and fell in love with them, but unfortunately trying to find some in Extra Small is proving impossible. If the 540s arent available, she will happily go for the 520s - or does anyone have any recommendations?
She trains 4 times a week, focussing on strength, so its all weights. She has VERY small hands, hence the need for the Extra Small.

Thanks for any help you may be able to pass her way!

I use Gripads - my hands aren't small but I'd imagine due to their design they would suit hands of all sizes.

jenabenabowden, can I just check what padding the palms have? Is it a gel padding?

Does she really need the gloves?  I trained for several years with gloves and would have panic attacks if I forgot them!  However, here's the but...I've now been doing strength training for 16 months (4 days per week) and the best thing I ever did was ditch the gloves because my grip is now way better than it ever was.  If she's a hardcore lifter the skanky hands and callouses will be a badge of honour too ;)

Callouses and hard hands don't work for me, so I use Versa Grips. Regular gloves didn't have the padding in the correct place, or weren't tough enough. VGs are expensive but I've had my current pair for over 12 months now and no signs of giving out yet!

If she is focusing on strength then ditch the gloves and get chalk!

Another recommendation for versa gripps, mine are 18months old and have just had the velcro replaced.

oooh ta Jen, thats real kind of you!  im getting quite proud of my hand calluses, but am sure the grips will help me use the right muscles instead of stressing out my forearms...:)

Might sound odd but I get bike gloves from the £1 shop!!!!!!!  They are not  so they do not impede you, but have really good grip, so they work really well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
