Good car wash wax shampoo and alloy cleaner, at a decent price? 30 January 2012 14:56 (permalink)
Googled and seen megs gold class mentioned alot and seen people tend to use mitts rather than sponges and reading about the two bucket method, thinking of maybe going door to door to earn a few quid. Thanks.

Two Mircorbire Mitts ( Megs are good an best priced) One for upper car, one for lower/ skirts/ bumpers.
Two buckets, one clean one for soap.

For alloys, BilBerry is pretty much the best
    http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/valet-pro-bilberry-wheel-cleaner/prod_499.html
Buy a separate bottle and spray ( be amazed the difference how much a good spray trigger can make), from the same site.
Also the EZ Detail brush makes cleaning them A LOT easier!

Are you wanting a shampoo and wax all in one?, cause no such thing really exists, you shampoo, then you apply wax. Or you can get whats known as a quick detailer, which is like a quick spray on wax.

Hey mate, cheers for the quick response!

You see the thing is i want to get good stuff but not everything as it will all add up, i could split the cost with my mate as we plan to do it together but the profit will be split too.

Mitts - yes, two bucket method - yes, shampoo - yes, alloy spray - most likely yes, ez brush, maybe (they dont come cheap).

The wash wax stuff i must be thinking of turtle wax mate, but thats not the good stuff as far as my googling tells me.

Is waxing not dodgy cause i dont want to damage the car, i was thinking of keeping it simple, exterior wash with alloy cleaner, but wax means i can charge more also so thats a plus.

cheers for the link btw, would that site be competively priced and one of the best/better ones?

just seeing you apply the alloy spray and just rinse it off instead of wiping, would a normal hose do the job for rinsing or can you spray it on the wheel then wipe it too?

I dont think the average Joe would know much about car cleaning products.

Check halfords. Sometimes they have a 3 for 2 sale on. Also check B&Q as they do too

Not a chance you jsut apply it and spray off, hence who I recommend the Ez Brush, the bilberry stuff dilutes to the strength you need it, ( if doing door to door most of them with have ingrained brake dust, theirs another product callied IronX I  would recommend but pricey). But it foams up brilliantly with a brush, much better cleaning that way, and faster as well.

The wax thing is fine, you jsut have to buy applicator sponges, like these,
            http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/accessories/meguiars-foam-applicators-pkg/2/prod_177.html
One smeer from the wax pot and apply a very very thin coat, small circles etc, theirs a few processes you should technically do before a full wax, ( tar removal, clay bar etc) but for what your doing I dont think it would matter much.

CYC is pretty much the best site I have delt with.

Also you will have to get, LOTS AND LOTS of mircro fibre cloths, and some decent drying towels to speed the whole process up..
These are very good for the price.
            http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/microfibre-cloths/eurow-shag-pile-double-density-towels/prod_436.html
And drying towels, as you cant apply a wax to a still wet car etc.

Its not the finish ( although you will notice it) its how easy the right/ good products makes cleaning a car is MASSIVE from cheap non brands, and how long they last to protect and keep the car cleaner or easier to clean the next time around.

True mate, but if you say we will wash, wax and dry and clean alloys with spray, rather than saying we will wash your car, we can get a few more quid and its more worth it, i want to offer a good service superior than your average wash with a sponge with whatever soap wash if you get me mate.

Halfords may be a good shout but wouldnt no what to go for, i suppose i could ask the people that work their but they could be talking crap lol

Would it do a good job without the ez brush, by just spraying and hoseing it down?

What about this stuff mate, its wash and wax, then could dry it down after? http://www.cleanyourcar.c...-and-wax/prod_681.html

Would be easier and cheaper i think doing wash wax rather than washing thanwxing separately.

Looks a very good site i must say alot of equipment on their and looks good stuff rather than cheap rubbish.

Its pretty much the only kinda of product you would get like that, us it then dry down to a shine.

BilBerry works from agitation, it has to be kinda scrubbed in, it wont do anything without some manual brushing put into it, ANY spray on product that says differently is talking ****.

Yea its a good, site, filled with all the good cleaners from companies you have never heard of before, Poorboys etc making the best Back to black plastic restorer, bought a bottle of it about 2 years ago and not even 1/3 used!

1 - mitts, mags shampoo wash wax, billberry wheel cleaner, and dry
2 - sponge, turtlewax shampoo wash wax and dry

And what would you recommend for drying after a wash wax?
I appreciate your help, youve been great so far :)

                        good luck with this mate.

I mainly wash my own car but if I CBA I take it to a hand car wash who make a superb job of it (though just a wash and alloy clean - no wax) and they charge a fiver. I personally wouldnt pay more than that as I know I am just being lazy and could do it myself.

Based on your target audience - door to door folk who accept your services are not going to be detailing snobs then IMO they will just expect a clean car - if it was me then I would buy the cheapest most effective products I can - they are not going to care if its meguirs or halfords shampoo.

Honestly Im crap at the pricing thing, theirs a few hand washes done now iim super market carparks and they clean as you park you car and the like, see how they charge and find a sweet spot, and maybe add on some more for convenience to them.

Cheap stuff is a no no, simply because you have to use MORE of it to get the same cleaning results as the more expensive stuff, and it still wont do as good a job, especially with shampoos that need little of them in the bucket and have much better diluting ratios, same for bilberry, I would use a strong dilute for it as most alloys have never been touched in the way you mean to clean them, but bilberry overall from one bottle can last a very long time.

I wouldnt let some one PAY ME to go near my car with a sponge...might as well clean it with sandpaper.

Also, just so you know, clean the wheels first, then door jams/ boot jam, and bonnet, then wash the car from the roof down, towel dry the car off to a shine drying the windows first to avoid water marks.

I mainly wash my own car but if I CBA I take it to a hand car wash who make a superb job of it (though just a wash and alloy clean - no wax) and they charge a fiver. I personally wouldnt pay more than that as I know I am just being lazy and could do it myself.

Based on your target audience - door to door folk who accept your services are not going to be detailing snobs then IMO they will just expect a clean car - if it was me then I would buy the cheapest most effective products I can - they are not going to care if its meguirs or halfords shampoo.

                            cheers mate :)

yeah your right about them not really being bothered so maybe choosing cheap stuff is the way to go, i was in and still am in two minds as its easy enough to go around washing a car with a sponge and i dont think i would even get £5 for that you know. So was thinking of offering a more premium type service ie using quality shampoo, mitts instead of a sponge, alloy cleaning and maybe wax. Therefore getting a few more quid than if i just washed it with whatever soap and a sponge.

Do you think i would be better using good stuff or cheap stuff mate for what im doing for door to door work?

And how much would you pay/think is fair for the two below -
1 - mitts, mags shampoo wash wax, billberry wheel cleaner, and dry
2 - sponge, turtlewax shampoo wash wax and dry

And what would you recommend for drying after a wash wax?
I appreciate your help, youve been great so far :)

Very valid point, would you rate stuff like turtle wax mate? no doubt the good stuff is megs etc.

If i did go down a more premium route then i could explain why i use mitts instead of a sponge and explain why the shampoo i use is better than the cheap stuff and about alloy cleaner etc, so naturally i could charge more for this type of service.

Cheers for the cleaning tips bud.

why dont you canvas a few streets in your chosen area and just ASK them if they would be interested in the service at the price you think is right? this will at least tell you if you have a decent chance at getting some customers.

I wash my own car and use Meguiars but thats because i've read up on the stuff.
Average Joe wont know the difference between Meguiars or Turtle Wax and if he did then he would want to wash his own car. Ask them about the two bucket system and they probably wouldn't have a clue either.
PoundLand do microfibre clothes. Poundstretchers do mits and buckets cheap enough.

Not many shampoo/wax products I've not tried and this stuff from Aldi is the best I have used. Problem being you have to wait for them getting it in.
