HDMI cable with removable ends??? 16 October 2010 14:50 (permalink)
Yes you've guessed it, we've wallpapered over the trunking for the TV and I haven't got enough HMDI cables in there!

I'm looking into getting the Apple TV at xmas so I need to get another HDMI cable up the trunking.

I have an idea..... where I cut the end off the scart lead that is currently in there (I won't be needing this anymore), tape the HMDI cable to it and pull it through.  But looking at my trunking, I don't think I can fit the end of an HDMI cable in there.

So if I could find a cable where the ends came off this would work.

If I can't do it I'll have to just plug the cable in everytime I need it.......... or maybe cut the wallpaper and open the trunking but thats a last resort!

You could buy a splitter box.

          jindlay suggestion is best.

So I presume a splitter box would allow mutiple HDMI inputs which would then feed into 1 cable?  Do they have some kind of switch to flick between the sources?

This sounds like the answer.  I could have this at the bottom of my trunking and feed the Sky and Apple TV into it.

If you don't already use one you could use an AV receiver with HDMI input/output.

A switch will let you have more than one device feed into only one cable/input on the tv.

A splitter would let you take one feed and show it to two displays. We use one of these to feed a plasma and a projector at the same time.

The switch will set you back less than a tenner for an auto switching model, and about £15 for a remote control version.

THe auto one should be fine if you plan on having multiple devices attached, but only one turned on at any given time. It will simply switch to select the input that is turned on.
