Gingernut, your life seems to mirror mine exactly. Same cycles of failure, same falling down foods (or should I say drink).

      Self control

Humans are naturally instinctive grazers, fighting instinct is hard but it has to be done if you want to achieve significant weight loss

terrible yoyo dieter myself. well used to be.
I lost 4 stone in about in 6 months, only to put 8 stone back on in about 4 years.
My alcohol problem does not help, as I tend to gourge myself after drinking 10 pints and bottle of sherry.

Lot of people same as me on here. Alcohol issues not help me either.
Now it's darker today; back into training.

Reading this with interest, I've always been about 15stone for years, even when I was really training hard about 5/6 years ago I was 15stone but looked well, up until August of this year I looked terrible at 15st 7 because I hadn't trained in years....

Now older and wiser I really do realise the importance of healthy, balance eating and regular training. Hope I don't fall off the wagon now as it would be alot of hard work thrown away!

That's it, sometimes you put so much hard work into something it's really not worth throwing it all away! I think and hope I have learned my lesson there! That's why my new moto is I am losing weight for the last time :)
Luckily I don't drink I am sure if I still lived in Essex I would though!
Snacking is where I fail miserably :(

when you try to loss weight quickly then there is always possibility of getting your skin loose. actually i have not done this type of trial before. but i am now in diet phase to make my abs more flatter.

I was fearful of this but having dropped some 40-odd lbs in 79 days my skin remains tight and not loose! Much to my suprise so I hope it stays like this.

Discipline really is the key to any program, whether it is weight loss or anything else in life.

                          I prefer the term consistency.
                          I've yo-yo'd to 1st heavier than b4 pic/stats
Hubby thinks I don't look that fat, so mayb body composition has held/isn't as bad/improved, but still another mammoth task ahead.
But I've done it once, so I know it bloody works just gotta get back on track & do it again.
Life got pretty extreme and I comfort ate & drank my through it.
I really hope I can learn consistency and not do that again, as life will test me again I don't doubt.
                          xx

December 09/January 10 I was about 185lbs (13 stone ish) But was about 25-30% bf.
                            Crash diet June-July 10 I was about 135lbs
Continued dieting to about 126lbs at about 18%bf..... was going no where.
By Feburary 11 I was 133lbs with around 10%bf (hard recomp then progress stalled, was time to bulk.)
Now I'm 160lbs about 15%bf, want to be about 165-168lbs by the end of February to start a long cut.

So in a sense gained a bit of my weight back, but much improved body composition.

Im constantly battling with my weight but in 2008 Janurary to the May I lost 3 and a half stone just constant cardio trying to run on average 5mile a night.

Since then iv gained all the weight back on Xmas Day of 2011 I weighed 15stone exactly im now down to 14stone 2lbs with training hoping to be back down to 11.5/12stone by May this year.

Absolute raging with myself that iv let my self go again but iv no one other to blame than myself.

If I were you and I would want to loss weight and keep it off I would use a gradual process by not going on diets but changing your lifestyle, so eating less carbs, less fat and less saturated fat, by walking to places under 2 miles, after your evening meal go for a 20 min walk etc

Ok simple, diets will knock weight off but wont keep it off unless you stay with it after you reach your ideal weight, you have to change your lifestyle, get more exercise into your week and remain eating healthy food. I don't know much about the stretch marks but with weight loss keep a track of how many calories you are consuming, then minus around 1600 off it, if you have any calories remaining then do exercise to burn it off.

My problem is, when I do lose the weight and having the diet sorted etc. I feel like thats my ticket to eat and drink what I want again. Then I'm back at square one, next time I get into good condition I'm going to keep the diet and alcohol intake in order (honest)

YES!  Definitely been there.  Lost about 10 kg when a shoulder injury put me on a downward spiral.  When I couldn't train I got a little depressed, and it's a bad place to be.  I actually ended getting heavier than my previous weight and that REALLY made me feel bad about myself!

Right now, my shoulder's almost completely healed, I got back to training.  Granted I'm not at my ideal weight yet, but I'm stronger than I have ever been, and once again the pounds are coming right off because I got back to eating healthily six days a week.

Truthfully I think the biggest thing that helps me with keeping the weight off is doing cardio that doesn't feel like a chore (I really like biking and karate).  Another thing, though some people don't recommend it, is having a day to cheat...to break the healthy eating habits I've been sticking to all week.  This helps me maintain my diet for longer periods of time.

I wrote an article about cheat days, because I THOROUGHLY enjoy them
