Help me pick my new protein! 26 January 2010 20:05 (permalink)
Okay, guys and gals.

I am running out of my Body fortress Whey Protein. Banana blavour. To be honest i thought it was a shocking product and won't buy it again for aslong as i can get better stuff off the iNet.

So, i am looking to buy some off the internet, and i was around on Monster Supp's..

I found two that took my interest (due to price etc).

First was this one:
http://monstersupplemen...utrisport-90+-2.5kg.html

Then..
http://monstersupplemen...y-Protein----5.0-lb.html

Okay, so which would you go for. I wanna be able to stand the taste as i would like to be taking this 2-3 times a day. And something i don't like i just wont wanna take more of. Also, something i will see gains with. Guessing whichever has better protein etc.

Anyways, help out guys, please :D

Either PHD Pharma Whey in chocolate mint or USN IGF1 Protein in chocolate flavour... best tasting proteins I've ever had, hands down.

Also, i would like to know whether it's your protein intake or calrories intake that will help me gain muscle. Or should i say to bulk up my muscle. If you get what i mean.

I don't wanna look fat, but i wanna have big muscles. I know after time etc pumping iron they will come, i have been working out 5 months or more now and i can see a difference.

Is protein the way to go. To build and bulk your muscles? More protein etC?
Weight gainer just to add weight?

          Its a combination of both.

Its also to do with how you train. Getting big takes time and staying lean means keeping cardio in your routine and making sure you get your diet and overall training right for you.

Yeah, when i workout i train HARD. Until i pretty much cannot do anything more on that muscle. I have a split routine throughout 4 days too.

I eat 6 meals or sometimes more a day. Intake of protein could be better, but i'll work on that when i get the new protein.

I run every wednesday too, i would rather be big than lean but cardio doesn't hurt anything, ay.

            So... anymore on the proteins?

              Hi Jecko.

All the products mentioned by yourself and TheShaman are perfectly good products.  As TIO says, you must nail your diet, routine and supplementation (as an offshoot of your diet if required) in order to reach your goals.

Analyse your diet.  As far as protein goes - aim for a minimum of 1g of protein per lb of bodyweight and see how you get on.  One thing is for sure, if you want to grow big you need more protein than your 'average joe'.

It may be the case that you require to supplement your diet with a quality 'weight gainer' to add some mass - although you would need to break your diet down in order to establish exactly what you need.  It may be the case that a whey protein product would suffice.

I cannot recommend you a specific protein as a rep, but all of the aforementioned are decent products.  It's down to your preference with regard to price and taste.

If you have the time, briefly post us your training routine, diet, physical stats etc!

I mean, if you want to gain serious mass and bulk with the aid of protein/carb shake supplementation, have you looked at 'all-in-one' pre and post workout shakes like USN Anabolic Muscle Fuel, PHD Synergy, Sci MX Omni etc etc??? They could be more effective than just plain protein when looking to gain mass and bulk with their 'all-in-one' formulas.

I have taken a look into those. I know MyProtein do formulaes of some kind? The only thing is, if i got to a bodybuilding stage, it would be in teens. (Haha, hence why i'm keeping it a low price as i'm living of some money i saved a while back, i don't have any paper round, part time job or anything atm. And my parents are gay about this and aren't up for spending for me, bummer).

But anyways, the AIO's are decent pricing, just still a little to pricey, but then again, it's cheaper than buying my protein / weight gainer and creapure all over as it's ALL in one. haha.

Wilks, Thanks for that. The only reason i was asking was if people had tried it, as i'm pretty much going on taste. They are both equily priced for what they give. They both have the decent amount of protein in too etc. I just don't wanna be gagging haha.

Here are two pics of my arms so far. No bicep pic atm.

My diet goes on what i am eating during school really.  But i can tell you what i normally have..

Morning, 2 cup oats with milk, orange juice and banana
Break, bagel egg and bacon (from school, kinda greesy but not bad), water to drink
Dinner, chicken potato with ketchup, or chicken sandwiches, banana, apple, water again
Home from school, 2 bananas, scrambled egg with ketchup

                  Workoutt...

Post workout, 2 bananas, protein shake,
About 30 - 1hr later, moms dinner, whatever she cooks, fish, steak, chicken, that sorta stuff.
Before bed, oats with milk. (also started to take a protein shake too now)

Think thats about it really. I probably need to be eating more, or get a weight gainer, also alot more protein if i wanna be BIG. Haha.

Nice one for posting the info. By the looks of the pics and considering how young you are, you certainly have a solid base to work from! It's up to you what supplements you get, I know what you mean though, perhaps stick at just pure protein powder for a bit then branch out to AIOs.

What does your workout look like? Do you have a split?

refarding the original post i really like the choc mint flavour of dymatize elite whey. i havent tried the nutrisport 90+ but a lot of reports seem to really trash it taste wise.

other cheap protein options are sci mentor and stc nutrition

Yeah i guess it aint bad considering i'm just going 16.

And yeah i have changed it up, i posted it in the routines section though. I'll post it here if u wish when i'm home from school.

I'll get either the PHD or 90+ as it's better for the price. (More etc).

You will prefer the taste of the dymatize compared to the nutrisport.

Other good deals at the moment are sci mentor whey and also STC nutritions whey - both of which taste better than 90+ in my opinion of course.

I always go for a blend, rather than straight whey and the choice is huge.
cnp peptide, vyomax deluxe, gaspari myofusion to mention a few and these shakes are so nice, you actually look forward to drinking them.

Hiya mate, i'd go for CNP Peptide, CNP Pro MR (but it depends if you want a few carbs in your shake), or Gaspari Myofusion.

One I would stay away from is BSN Syntha 6, this has loads of carbs in, and full of sugar, tastes nice but puts on fat very fast

im looking for a pre-bed shake as i cant stomach cottage cheese or quark etc. therefore im looking for something slower digesting. what would be the best options for this?

This is a big factor for many (including myself).  Others just want as much protein as they can consume which is fair enough. :)

im looking for a pre-bed shake as i cant stomach cottage cheese or quark etc. therefore im looking for something slower digesting. what would be the best options for this?

A casein based protein shake would offer a slower rate of absorbtion overnight mate.

a lot of products recommended may taste nicer but you often pay for the taste. Pro MR for example was recommended. thats £30ish for 20 servings so not going to help his budget. 90+ tastes fine mate and if you jsut need a bit of extra protein is a great option. your diet looks not bad for someone who is new to this and still in school. the best advice i can give is plan forward. if your mum wont buy your supps im sure she'll buy your food. make up some tupperware tubs of tuna pasta, chicken and rice etc in a morning and munch away on your breaks or in between lessons. a small meal in between each lesson will make a huge difference to your gains. just stick to your protein, train hard and eat well and you'll be alright. looking at your pics you do have a good base to start from.

to kaldog: nice highjacking lol. id agree with wilks, a casein or blended protein are the best options. add some mild olive oil to get some good fats and slow down uptake even more.

yeah, which casein/slow blends are there out there of higher quality with good taste?

and yeah, ill probably mix it with milk and flaxseed powder as i do with my pre-bed im having atm :)

another suggestion for op is buying a decent yet not overpriced whey and also a big tub of cheap, unflavoured bulk whey and going 60:40 or so with flavoured:unflavoured

though to do that youll need to pick something with a stronger flavour. i find it works ok for me in my pwo shake having unflavoured whey with dymatize elite whey (mint (although i have banana also but tastes bad))
