Hi All, I'm Steve from bonnie Scotland. Born and bread in South east London, but escaped up here back in 86. Happily married with 3 kids from 11-26 and a 1 year old grandson. My training history is somewhat limited. I started training in my late 20's, but never stuck at it for more than six months at a time due to a build up of shoulder pain. After many years of putting up with being sent for physio and being told to rest I went to see a consultant privately. To confirm his diagnosis I was sent for a CT scan. I turns out that I had two boney spurs growing that were dragging on the supraspinatus tendon. Keyhole surgery fixed that and after a spell of rehab I was training pain free for the first time. Then at the end of 2009 I had a huuuuuuuge highside on my motorbike which resulted in 6 broken ribs, a flail segment, a fractured vertebrae and a punctured lung. Ouch !!!!! After 2 weeks in High dependency and several months scared to burp, fart or sneeze I started rehab at my local gym early in 2010. My goal was to build some core strength and just take it from there really. Well I kinda got the bug! I have been training hard for about 18 months now with a goal of competing in our gyms strongman event that we have against another local gym every year. I have been doing a lot of deadlifts during my rehab and really ramped that up over the last year. The competition was last Sunday and my goal was to compete with the guy that won the deadlift last year with a lift of 235kg. I thought that was a realistic goal and went into the competition full of confidence. Anyway, long story short. I placed third in the farmers walk, first in the shot putt and broke the strongman deadlift record with a winning lift of 250kg. I placed third overall and to say I was happy would be a bit of an understatement. I am 46 next month and competing against guys from 10 to 20 years younger than me gave me a real buzz.
