Home "Free" Cardio 01 March 2010 13:02 (permalink)
Hey guys, I'm trying to lose allot of my chubbiness that I've acquired over the years, I wouldn't say I'm FAT but I'm definitely a bit chubby around my stomach and legs etc so I'm trying to slim down and bulk up.

The bulking up part I'm doing well, I have the right equipment like dumbbells barbell and a bench etc. Cardio on the other hand I have no equipment and outdoors here is absolutely freezing and it doesn't mix well with the mild asthma that I have, so I've been looking into home cardio.. without expensive equipment like treadmills or exercise bikes, so I tried getting a heavy dumbbell and holding it with both hands and running up and down the stairs and it exhausted me and I was dripping with sweat and my heart was thumping and I have short breaks from it where I do jumping jacks and mountain climber exercises and it feels like its really getting my heart going and building a sweat.

So my question is, is doing this enough to burn away the fat? do I need to go out running and bicycling or is this sufficient enough? Also are those exercise bikes that cost around £80 effective?.

i would wager you'll not be burning much fat running up and down the stairs with that dumbell!

Can't beat the exercise bike tbh, unlike other things like steppers, rowers etc you can train in front of the tv whilst paying little attention to the actual exercise.

Got mine for £110 which comes with a computer and 8 resistance settings. The computer doesn't factor the resistance just the rotations of the wheel so you could have it on no1 or no8 and it will give the same reading. Just use it for the clock, distance and speed tbh as at least these are vaguely accurate.

I've got a cheap and cheerful cross trainer at home. It was out in the shed but currently is staring me in the face indoors.

Was able to hold 250+ lbs of me more than happily for anything up to 90mins a session. Bought off a neighbour for £20

Cheap and cheerful defo is a skipping rope. Fantastic cardio and once you've got the momentum you can go for ages.

I would say a exercise bike would be a good investment however, it's March so you might want to save the cash and start jogging in the outdoors.

To really shed the flab try and do it before Breakfast.

Its possible to lose fat just via diet manipulation, if you are worried about asthma and cardio.
