Home Gym 31 January 2012 15:32 (permalink)
I started the gym maybe 4 months ago now due to change in work I'm no longer able to travel 15 mins to the gym and spend an hour there and then 15 back home.

I'm looking into setting up a little gym at home, what are the must haves? what is the best way of putting this together with space in mind and where is the best place to buy equipment.

Depends on how much you wanna spend...a mate of mine has filled his garage with a Smith machine, pull-up bar, adjustable bench plus barbell, EZ bar & a pair of dumbells. Everything he needs.

If you have the space then I'd say a power rack is the best bit of kit you can buy.

If you dont have space for a bench id say your pretty limited. You can still get a barbell/dumbell, to do rows, squats, deads, standing miliary presses, curls etc.
But youll be limited in terms of other movements(benching) and weight used (squats). Ive heard people using a barbell and benching on the floor.. lol.. but not sure how far your range of motion would go. If you can get an adjustible bench, id get one.

I was thinking about using a Gym Ball?

Easier on space and its easy to store?

Would this offer a full range of motion?

Gym ball for benching? you could do, not sure how heavy you could go.

I think first we need to establish what your goals are and what you hope to achieve. think it will give a better idea on what to suggest doing. If your not wanting to build too much mass/size then weight wont really be a massive issue. Thus not requiriing soo much equipment.
