Hoping for some Nutritional Advice/Confirmation 17 January 2012 20:10 (permalink)
Hey,

Little background - I started weight training in April and weighed about 9 and a half stone / 60kg. I'm about 5,10 height. A lot of my friends had been training for a while and suggested that I simply "eat everything" as I was so skinny. Since then i've been doing exactly that and going to the gym at least 3 times a week. I've definitely bulked up and am now 75kg. My problem is that I've started to pack on a bit more fat than I would like. (I'm 10% body fat although its only going to my stomach area)

I've changed my diet this week and am hoping that someone with more experience can let me know if I'm on the right track.

I calculated that I require around 2870 calories a day - 215g protein, 358g carb, 63g fat.

Below is an example of my typical day.

9am - Protein Shake, 50g Uncooked Oats, 1/4 of a medium banana.
12pm - Gym
1pm - Chicken Sandwich, Banana.
3pm - 500ml Protein Water, Banana, Corn Snacks.
6pm - Sirloin Steak, Brown rice, carrots and green beans.
8pm - Protein Shake, 50g Uncooked Oats, 1/4 of a medium banana.
11pm - Chicken Breast, 2 slices of wholemeal bread, 2 low fat biscuits (not chocolate etc).

I have calculated that this example gets me the required levels of protein, carbs and fat although I am worried also that I may be undereating as I find myself hungry and am influenced by my friends telling me to always "eat when you can".

Am I on the right track eating as above or should I continue to eat as I was? Thanks a lot in advance, all advice is welcome :)

Hi mate and welcome to MT
More fruit, veg and good fats
    Post workout protein and carbs?
Too any bananas. Vary the fruit. Go for dark colours too
358g of carbs from that diet? Are you sure?

Also 0900-1300 is a large gap with just a shake and some oats and training before you eat next.
