Have a stronger frame, be more dominant and assertive.

Be firm and polite, I would actually tell a person in a joking way that their boring the tits off me. If he starts talking waffle, take hold of the conversation, interrupt if you have to and take over and end the conversation on your terms with you in control.

I frequently use my favorite line "Sorry I need to stop you there I've completely lost interest" Always works and some idiots take it as a joke.. but they still shut up.

I just keep any responses short and to the point.

Actually come to think of it, i do this for everyone, mainly as everyone's a critic, or just grumpy and sardonic.

Guy is probably feeling a bit out of sorts in a new environment, so is just doing his best to fit in, or at least be amiable.

I had a samsung phone which had a get away function ..... basically when in a situation you wanted out of you put your hand in your pocket and pressed a key and the phone would ring ...you take it out answer it and it plays whatever the message is you have recorded, so you pre record yourself ...having a one sided conversation stating that there is an emergency at home and you need to get yourself there imediately !!! all phones should have this ...

I have a similar thing with a work colleague of mine. He's got this terrible habit of talking to me about things I have no interest in and people I do not know. Yet he goes on and on.

Yes, I put up with it because he's not a child molester or a murderer. He's just a nice decent boring guy and I haven't got the heart to tell him that I am not remotely interested in what he's got to say.

Take my word for it. I'm smiling.

Tbh I'm known at work for hardly talking,I will have conversation now and then, but people know when I ain't interested which is the majority of the time as most at work are not my kind of people,I think they just take the body language and see me to busy working so that when they do talk it gets swiftly ignored, and they leave it there, bar one lady who I think come from another planet (seriously) just goes on and on about her life story and her son.

Tbh I just continue to work and take some humour from her and the way she just thinks she's the centre of the universe and that everyone must want to hear about her life.

So the simple answer really would be 'just get on with what you are doing'

If they are talking let them talk, just don't respond and I'm sure they will take the hint.

If you love something let it go,if it comes back to you it's yours,if it doesn't it never was.

Put some peanut butter in one of those tiny plastic pots you get ketchup in.
Put this down your pants.
Put your hand down your pants while he's talking to you.
Pull out some peanut butter on your finger.
Eat it.
There will never be a problem again.

Fall forward of chair
Suddenly jump to your feet shouting

Giggles the first time
Walks of in a huff the tenth time.

Do you think he thinks your BORING? maybe he is talking about work stuff because he does.

Talk about other things for a time and see if he changes in your estimation.

Like has been hinted before, as a temp he doesnt really get to forge proper work frienships so he never gets past that initial small talk about what he knows you have in common, being the work side.

He's engaging you on a safe level for someone who sees themselves as an outsider or interloper coming into an established team for a short space of time.

Either just grin and bear it, as he is only temporary staff anyway, or actively try and engage him in non work related convo. Why not ask him if he has any gym related interests.
