How do you get a better deal with Virgin Media?

I know there’s been alot of threads on this over the last 12 month, but has anyone got any tips on how to get a better deal? Everyone seems to have a better deal than me LOL

I'm currently paying £23 p/m for an old Telewest plan: starter TV package (no mtv, no vh1, no sky obviously, no bravo 1, no bravo 2, no sentanta) and broadband size M. Which IMO is a complete rip off.

My GF currently pays £21 p/m for a better tv package, broadband, and a telephone with free calls at a certain time.

I rang virgin up earlier and said how unhappy I was, all they did was offer me options that cost me more money than I was already paying.

Is there a way to haggle? Do I need to speak to the disconnections department and threaten to leave before they listen to you?

Any advice much appreciated

When it was NTL you could tell them you were leaving and they would offer you a better deal, when I was in my old house I phoned them up because like you I was few up of the service I was getting, they did me 10meg broadband, TV+Sports and phone all for £35 per month, when you phone them up now to tell them your leaving they'll just say oh well never mind.

They offered me that deal mate, but I dont really wanna pay that much. Is it any good?

I was wondering how long they could keep offering these 'wonder' deals when you threatend to leave.

You could learn to read, and get as much enjoyment as i do in reading some of the world's great writers.

Much cheaper and better then sitting in front of the box for hours at a time

Snap their hands off buddy it's a good deal, you'll soon be on 20meg for free because they are upgrading their service.

I'm not really arsed about the 20 meg mate, I'd much rather just have the TV and phone and a basic connection.

I dont download much stuff really, only use it for surfing the web.

I phoned Virgin when Sky started the See, Speak, Surf package and pointed out what a good deal it was (conveniently forgetting to mention the ~£10/month land-line charge that I'd have to pay BT). Virgin gave me free weekend calls and knocked the price of my 2Mb broadband down from £17 to £7/month. So I get land-line, cable TV & 2Mb broadband for £17/month. Ker-ching!

I then applied for a VirginMobile SIM card which gives 300mins+300 texts/month for £10/month.

Good deal then Nige? It just goes to show that if you stick to your guns they'll bend the rules and offer you a better deal.

I phoned them when our contract expired and told them i was off to sky, they gave us the medium broadband, all tv channels except sky sports) and phone will free landlines calls all the time for £40. We have the HD V+ box and they knocked off the £10 extra charge for that per month too. Seen as i was on a role i pushed my luck and told them i would only take it if they did a 6 month contract not 12 cos i was planning to move house and they agreed!!

Just called up ready to negotiate a deal but was told I had been put on a new 12 month contract when I changed address, is that true?

    Situation.

Signed up to blueyonder at uni digs in sept 06.
blueyonder is acquired by virgin and now rebranded in iirc q2 of 07.
    Changed address in july 07.
Its now feb 08 and want to disconnect contract but, a new 12 month contract was made when i changed address and I cant disconnect without pay early exit fees.

    Does that sound right?
