How to disable ABS warning light for MoT on VW Golf? 17 January 2009 13:47 (permalink)
Just bought a Golf. MoT needed next month.
ABS warning light is on. Diagnostics at two garages say ABS is fine but sensor is not.
Sensor price = how much? Scream....
present car with ABS light on = instant fail.
How to disable light for MoT? Through the dash, or at the ABS itself?
Ta. :-)

Can't find one that wipes out the ABS light John.
Golf parts prices take the p***.
£187 to replace a broken plastic clip that retains the driver's window in the door skin. Plus fitting. Plus VAT.
ABS pump is over a grand.
Sensor is a few hundred quid.

Given that there are gazillions of Golfs and a lot of the parts are generic throughout the VW-Audi group, surely ebay is your best bet?

                    Tippex?

I've a 2001 TDi. The ABS light comes on when I take corners too quickly. Largely irrelevant to this thread but thought I'd share anyway. Although at some stage it may come on and stay on so I'll keep viewing this thread in case there's an easy answer to the problem.

Khany from the TAOS & UGM (I think that's the one) has a Mk4 Golf and knows lots about them. Maybe try him?

Ive got the same car same year.

I had a similar problem with the ABS light coming on.

I paid this guy £20 to put it through a 'special' machine and it went off.

Whether that would work with a dodgy senser I dont know?

Surely if the mechanics you go to were competant they would be able to fix the problem.

Options. As pointed out, find a VW forum and buy the sensor from there.

Alternatively, chance your hand with a scrappie version.

Another alternative, Eurocarparts http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecommerce/Search_Results.asp If your golf is the 1.9 diesel, the sensor's about 30 quid. Go from www.eurpcarparts.com I assumed yours was a MK IV?

Then use the forum/haynes to DIY it.
