....., 240x0 WTF pass the bottle of asprin

Its funny how sessions can feel, good, bad or indiferent. If I had stuck to 240x3 with gas in the tank I probably would have been that bit happier. It's mainly cus I made a mistake going for the 5. This egged the session into average. Funny old thing the mind!!!

I can see where your coming from but its irrational thought process based on faith

always next week mate!

18/7/08

Bench press + doubled mini-bands;

50x5
60x5
70x3
80x3
90x3
100x1
110x1
115x1
100x2 (feet up)
100x2 (feet up)

Dumbbell floor press;

35x10
40x10
40x4
40x4
40x4
40x3

Band pushdowns- 10x2

Pulldowns- 10x2, 5x2

I have had a bad back this week and have been pretty laid up wed and thurs, so was happy to get done what I have. Couldn't quite set up or leg drive as normal hence the feet up work at the end, plus the floor pressing. Notice the high level of muscular endurance I have in the chest, shoulders and triceps ! Still did the job of getting some work in and hopfully not irritated my back further.

Question is squat tomorrow?? mmmm...

Cheers. Back is not serious, Just a small rotator muscle in the lower back that gets inflammed a bit every now and then. Results in not being able to walk at times but there isn't much pain and it heals fast, eg. 13 days before last BWLA divisonals I couldn't walk for 2 days, 6 days before the meet I was back squating and did a squat pb at the meet.

The reason it was dodgy this week was the GM's on sat combined with pulling on tuesday. I could still walk though so it wasn't at it's worst.

Cheers Darren. Pecs are twitchy today. The band work always dose that for soem reason. Funnyist is when the cramp up 'on the job' as it where!

19/7/08

Squat;

60x5
100x5
120x3
140x3
160x2
180x2
200x2 (suit on, straps down)
220x2 (wraps on, straps up)
240x2
260x1 (=pb)
272.5x1 (****e, ****e depth)

180x1 (gear off)
190x1
200x1
140x3
150x3
160x3

Grrr... had my 1st 600lb squat in the bag but didn't unrack correct, so it felt unstable and I bottled it coming up well early. I actually unracked it nicely only to have a wraps come undone. Hastly re-wrapped but missed 'the moment' hence the 2nd attempt at unracking went foul. There you go. 1st time in a while with straps up. Still another cycle with straps up and I'll be good for that and more. I should probably change this day up so I train at uni with my training partner rather than on my own. Did some raw work but quite honestly felt spent. On the plus side my back was fine!

21/7/08

BTN press- barx10x5

Seated dumbbell press- 10x10, 20x10, 30x9 (missed 10th)

Bent over raises- 7.5x15x3
Seated dumbbell cleans- 7.5x10x2
Seated front raies- 7.5x10, 10x10

Just a bit of shoulders. Out of practice with the dumbbell pressing but my excuse was I am still hurting from sat/fri sessions... and I will not be budged from this Actually the dumbbell pressing didn't hurt my arms that much so will try and gte a few hard sets in on mondays from now on.

On a good note I am going to be training with John Porter this sunday at his place of training. Will be great to train my squat with an experienced equipped lifter!

23/7/08

Deadlift;
120x3
140x3
160x3
180x1
200x1
220x1
240x1
260x2 (pb)

Sumo deadlift (in squat suit);
220x1
240x1
260x1 (sumo pb )
272.5x0 (who was I kidding )

Deadlift;
200x5
210x5
220x5

Power split snatch (probably!);
50x3
60x3
70x1
80x1 (=pb)

Grippers;
IM1 RH- strap holds (2.5kg) x 3 x max hold (average about 10s)
IM1 LH- strap hold (2.5kg) x 1 x max hold, reps x 3, strap hold (1.25kg) x 1 x max hold

Good session today. Last deadlift session of this cycle and hit my planned double. I've pulled 260 nicer than today, but just managed to gut out a 2nd rep! Had a play with sumo pulling in my suit and was happy with a tough 260. Considering I havn't pulled sumo in anger in years, and was not fresh, this ain't bad going and makes me wonder if it's worth a cycle or so to see where it could take me equipped? Not gona worry about it now but I'll put it in every now and again whilst I ponder. I would not give up conventional lightly, but kg's on your total is kg's on your total.

Down sets where full on today. 220x5 was rappage by the end... good stuff!

As for sntaches I think this is the lift I'll do at the Chichester meet, with the aim of attempting BW. However I must remeber to get my thumb out the way when I drop the bar. On the 60 set I let go near the floor and it bounced up into my thumb.

Best thing of today... using the misses 'rose smelling' talc. The feminine side of powerlifting!!

RE: Iain K's Powerlifting - 25 July 2008 15:34
25/7/08

Bench press;
70x5
80x5
90x3
100x3
120x3 (shirt on)
140x3
160x1
170x1 (1st to touch, slight uneven extension)
180x1 (pb; missloaded!! planned 175, but loaded 180 and uneven, foot moved, uneven extension)
182.5 (new pb; uneven extension, bobbled of chest, in fact it was rough as a badgers technique wise )

3 board press;
150x3
160x3
165x3

Dumbbell floor press;
35+light band x 6
40+LB x 3
40+LB x 3

Dumbbell row;
50x15
50x12

Barbell row (snatch grip);
60x10
60x10

Good session today. Happy with my 1st 400lb bench, even if it was raggady as **** and would not have past in a comp! My main problem (among many no doubt) is timing the lockout and stabiltiy on the chest. I am happy with the way this little cycle has gone and have achived my 2 goals i.e. break in the new bench shirt (I could probably do with a tighter one ) and set down a decent pb. After my hols I'll back down and really focus on technique and speed as I work up to the All English. I am still on plan to open with 170 and take 182.5 as a 2nd attempt.

Rest of session was solid. The high rep rowing left me gased and in need of a lie down

As I said to Tony on sugden, there's still plenty of work to do before I get 2 white lights at a comp. But it touched my chest and I locked out so for know I am happy!

I was well chuffed when I realised I had 180 on the bar instead of 175. I did wonder why it felt really uneven and my foot slipped on the right!!!

Quite a bit of difference, precentage-wise then? I shall do more with the equipment myself next year, but I want to build the raw numbers up first - if I can!

Do you find there is a similar carry over with the squat suit? Again, percentage-wise?
