Ideas for flavouring pre-cooked chicken chunks?
23 January 2012 13:00

After totally making myself sick of tuna in my pitta breads, I've found some pre-cooked chicken chunks from Aldi. Cheap and quick is the criteria, and this fills it perfectly. I currently mix a bit of salt and paprika in a bowl with some yoghurt, mix the frozen chicken in with it to coat it, then bang it all in pitta breads. Dead easy. But the novelty is wearing off and I'm starting to get fed up of the taste. So I need some ideas before I put myself off chicken! I can raid the spices cupboard but I wondered if anyone had any suggestions. I only use yoghurt to stop it being dry..... and it's better than mayo!

I use discovery mexican fajita spice mix- its not calorific at all and has a very tasty flavour. Sometimes I use pesto but that obviously bumps up fat and kcals.

I use Pataks curry sauces, only about 50 grams or so, so if you're cutting this wouldn't be a problem. Out of interest, how much do you get in the packs from Aldi and how much is it?

Cheers guys. It's £1.99 a pack and I think you get 340g's. Cheap enough and actually nice. I make my sarnies up with the frozen chicken in and let it defrost over night. Takes me literally 2 mins to make.

I feel your pain bud. Been eating chicken 3+ days per week for longer than I care to mention. Then I discovered these beauties, http://www.sojuicy.co.uk/ and my life is now complete!!! Basically, - Put 3-4 chicken breasts into the supplied plasticy bag
- Empty the spices into the bag and give it a good shake
- Seal it up with the supplied tie
- Pop in the oven for 30 mins.
The bag helps keep the chicken nice & moist and it comes out well flavoured. It’s a quick and convent way to cook chicken. There’s only about 5 different flavours but that’s enough for most. Enjoy!!

The only problem with maggies so juicy is they have alot of salt in if I remember right. Could be wrong though. I do agree though the paprika chicken one is amazing.

Yeah they are a bargain. I don't really care if they have salt or water in there....... there's plenty of protein, it's cheap and easy.

why would you buy that tiny arse bag of chicken when in the next section along you can buy a whole kilo of frozen chicken for £3.99?!?! yeah sure its not pre cooked but how hard is it to put it in the oven for 40 minutes and then if you like you can even refreeze the cooked chicken so you can still use it how you do. You dont get the additives and you dont get ripped off! There are tons of things you can do with chicken, I sometimes make a tiny amount of sauce to cover the chickens. The base of most of my sauces are double cream (yeah sure its high in fat but theres little fat in chicken and little fat in bread, so you need it if making a sandwich). Try double cream with a spoonfull of curry paste mixed in, or double cream and garlic, or you can try finely chopping some spring onion, some mixed herbs and add a splash of olive oil and chuck it in a pan with the chicken. or while its cooking squeeze a lemon over it. Also mixing it with mint sauce or horse raddish is really good, i know they are meant for other meats but who cares, it tastes good. Dan
