I'm probably being stupid, but can someone explain this for me?

I was reading something on straight bar VS. EZ bar and it said the follwing: "we can actually do more weight with an Ez curl bar than with a straight bar. Why is that anyway. It's simple. The more you turn the wrist so the palm is facing down the more you activate the brachio radialus. This is good for building the top of the forearm but it's not so good for the bicep because now it doesn't have to do all the work. If your goal is to build huge biceps here's a little trick you can use with the EZ curl bar that makes it even better than the straight bar... Grab the EZ curl bar so the palms are pronated but supinated. It's really awkward but man does it place stress right down on the lower bicep". I can't work out which part of the EZ bar you would need to handle in order to have your hands "pronated but supinated". As I say I'm probably being stupid but can someone clarify this for me Thanks in advance.

It's a typo. You cannot drive a car forwards but drive it backwards, can you? Neither can you supinate but pronate your palm. There are a few typos on the above link. Maybe he does have a worthy tip but I think he should learn to proof read before sharing it. sel

what do you think he's referring to then? I assume theres only 2 hand positions for the ez bar? wide and narrow, and he already dismisses wide in the passage? thanks x

I'm guessing here, and I could not do this without breaking something, but if you hold a straight bar your palm is at 90 degrees to the vertical, if you hold an EZ bar it is at less than 90 degrees, now I reckon he means hold the EZ so that the palm is at greater than 90 degrees if you see what I mean. As I say, I wouldn't even try it.

I think FatPete might be onto something there. Essentially, what it sounds like they're recommending is oversupinating the palm. However, many trainers find that using a normal barbell with a fully supinated grip causes discomfort on the forearms so trying to exaggerate this position will be very difficult.

the entire article is shyte. you cannot curl more using an ez bar. well, perhaps a kilo more, but thats it. larry scott used an ez bar quite a lot of the time, i saw him doing it. the ez bar was developed because it was found that the bicep was more fully worked when the wrist was slightly turned in, because it is a more natural movement. (this was worked out by experimenting with dumbells. as selector pointed out, the pronator/supinator thing is a typo.

yeah pronation and supination are opposite actions. as previously said you cant drive forwards and backwards at the same time. i was thinking, maybe he means your hands are supinated, but would be in a prone possition to anyone else, ie, with your knuckles facing the ceiling, but as your laying down, your hands need to be supinated for this to happen. just a guess. i reckon its either a bad explanation or a typo.

Granted Sel it does seem a little bit pinnickity. Curls are curls, nuff said. However, when you look at some of the pictures of Larry, he does have unique arm development and he CLEARLY knows what he's talking about, I just wish it was decypherable LOL. I guess... until I can understand what he's talking about, I'll stick to narrow grip EZ preachers to really isolate the biceps. http://www.bodybuildbid.com/articles/mrolympia/imgs/scott/scott2.jpg
