Increasing sprint speed

What training can be done to improve how fast someone can run? Not sure if I'm posting in the correct area or if there is even specific training for increasing one's sprint speed but I'm curious. I know dropping the gut would be beneficial!

I've seen sprinters on television demonstrating both arm and leg technique - high knees and thrusting the arm back, and there's a lot more besides I'm sure. Perhaps have a look on youtube.

Worth researching first as my knowledge isn't great on it but plyometrics may be of some aid to you.

Same as what people above have said. The Jump boxes are very good, weighted stuff too. Good one i saw in my gym was the person had the weights belt on (By the cable machine), clipped the cables to him and then had a medicine ball out in front of him and had to run, place it down, then controlled get back to the machine, run back out, get the ball and put it out even further etc. Think he did 20/30 second bursts of this.

*The_West* lowering bodyfat, plyometrics, running with resistance all help increase your speed. I read something a few months ago about sprinting with resistance, and how, although theres was initial hype around it, in actuality, Increasing leg strength and strength endurance had a significantly larger impact on sprint speed.

maybe it does, maybe it doesnt. i play a for a local rugby team, and on fitness day they have us sprinting with a heavy old sack tied to our waist, my sprint times have improved (not significantly, but in this game every little helps) and continues to improve as i add resistance.
