Re:Independent newspaper article - muscular and feminine the new face of bodybuilding

Good article, 5 weeks away from first competition and had to go for UKBFF federation because of the dates, went on U tube to take a look at previous ones, felt sad to see women look like men, not as nature intended and a distortion of creation which in its original design is good, appealing to the eye :)

James gingernut Annoys me when guys look at female athletes and always bring it down to sex or attractiveness. Why should we have to defend our 'femininity'. I suspect it has more to do with guys being insecure in their masculinity. It annoys me when women generalise about men too! When will men get it that anyone with very low bodyfat will also have a lean face - where the jaw may stick out. Why should men have to defend the fact that not all men have issues with females looking 'feminine'?! Sorry should have qualified this with 'some' men. Mostly those not involved in sport as those who are don't tend to hold those views at all. In fact they are usually very supportive indeed.

Good article. It is a shame that the americans have ruined female bodybuilding. Actually, the americans have ruined male bodybuilding as well.

Just thought id throw my opinion in on this. Me and some of my m8s have started to watch the active channel. I dont see anything unfeminine (if thats a word) with women like Louise Rodgers or Carly Thornton, in fact i find both of them very attractive. One of my m8s in particular would prefer his women to be size 0 with no shape or curves at all. I would say size zero is unfeminine rather than women with a bit of muscletone and shape to them. Whilst i think Louise Rodgers and Carly Thornton have great bodies obviously they seem to have struck a balance between feminine and muscletone, i dont really like woman too butch like some of the American female bodybuilders you see throwing saddos about motel rooms for a few dollars per hour.

Ross, "butch" or not, they're not doing it for sexual attraction (even though some "saddos" like it) and this is exactly what gets the frustration going. Why should a woman/man changing her/his shape into whatever form become a subject of sexual nature at whatever level!!? No one talks about other sports people in the same light!! "Oh I don't think he's attractive as he's not as skilled at playing football as ......."

Kitty I so agree with you - why is it that things women do, have to often be brought down to whether or not it makes them sexually attractive?Yet that tends to be the reaction of a lot of males, even other women at times. I remember when I was a distance runner and friends telling me that top competitors such as Liz McColgan looked too thing, ill and prematurely old in their faces. This often came from people who lived less than healthy lives, with little ambition themselves. Heck - those women were at the top of their game, achieving fantastic things. They probably couldn't have given a toss if joe bloggs fancied them or not. Bodybuilders train to show off their muscle development and definition. FULL STOP. ps above comment describes the reaction in general of some males not involved in bbing, but it doesn't include every man.

"Oh I don't think he's attractive as he's not as skilled at playing football as ......." The woman that do that are cashing in on the sexual attraction that some men have towards musclebound women. Nothing wrong with that aslong as it stays legal, just the same as a lapdancer cashes in on mens sexual attraction towards them. I was only stating my preference. Just in the same way where i would prefer a fitness model type body for myself rather than a power lifters or a heavyweight bodybuilder. Whatever anyone wants to do with their bodies is entirely up to the individual.
