Hi all
I spotted this and if you scroll down it has Nicole Wilkin's diet- do you think it is a good balance? Just wondered your thoughts:

Meal plan I eat 6 meals a day, every 2-3 hours.

Protein sources include:
Egg whites, Ahi tuna, cod, salmon, chicken, MET-Rx Whey Protein, filet and 99% extra lean ground turkey.

Carbohydrate sources:
Oatmeal (my favorite), sweet potatoes and brown rice.

Fat sources include:
Almonds, natural nut butters, avocado and olive oil.

Meal 1: 1/2 cup oatmeal and 6 egg whites
Meal 2: MET-Rx Protein Shake—100% Natural Whey
Meal 3: 5 oz chicken and 4 oz sweet potato
Meal 4: 5 oz Ahi tuna and large salad with 14 almonds
Meal 5: 5 oz chicken and 1 cup vegetable
Meal 6: MET-Rx Protein Shake—100% Natural Whey

I'm not sure - first thing I'd want to do is add up the macros and cals to see what the actual numbers are, see if they were right for me.

Then my other thoughts (just for me) are:
I don't do oats so I would take them out
Why only almonds? Seems a bit of dogma.... I eat all sorts of nuts and personally love walnuts and brazils.
I have zero self control around nut butters so they'd be out (tried & tested I'm afraid!)
I'd add in more/other fat sources
I'd add in whole eggs, red meat and oily fish

    Again, all personal :)

I'm not sure I could do the egg whites thing- I checked and 1 reflex microwhey shake is nutritionally (in terms of protein and carbs, fat) near enough the same as 6 egg whites.

Depends on the individual and their goals. I'd add in more veggies. I used to have a problem with nut butters like Nic, but since having them included on my prep diet I've found I can control them to my amazement.

Nic_Chip I can't explain how much you've made me feel better that I have no self control around nut butters either! I was only telling Kels that the other day!

I think it's probably up there in the top 3 "things people on a diet can't trust themselves around" ;) I doubt we are in a minority. Fats, salt, sometimes sugar, texture and mouthfeel.... it makes sense.

Stay strong! Be gone, nut butters! :D

You talked about elephant in the room in another post - I feel that people messing up on their diets is a huggggeeeee thing that seldom people actually admit to - it's one of my big bug bears, you're human, prepping's hard, you can't be superhuman all the time
              If I had a top 3 they'd be:
              1) Nut butter
              2) Sugar-free jelly (yes really, it's just a nasty spiral...)
              3)
I actually can't think of any others that'd make me come tumbling off, except general sh1te willpower! Towards the end of my diet, I take any choc-flavoured proteins out of my diet - they can be disasterous!

Completely agree Flick. Surely - SURELY - everyone slips up sometimes, even if it's just once per prep? I always remember Kitty writing in her Pro Card journal that being a Pro was just like being amateur, in that they don't give you a magic wand or a secret password along with the Pro Card. Pros are still human! So surely all Pros struggle too? But you never really hear of it do you (apart from places like honest MT journals of course)

My top 3 (currently, at any rate!)
                1) nut butters, includes tahini
                2) granola (particularly if "my husband's granola in its special tub")
                3) um..... dried fruit, I think.

Yep I've done the "pp off the spoon" thing too (top tip: do not attempt with rice pp  *choke*) and yes I take all PPs out of diet for final week or two, for many reasons but this is one!

Progress is - to my mind anyway - when you can identify WHY you go for these things, ie is it a macro you're missing (fatty stuff), comfort food/food with a psychological link for you, foods high in energy (dried fruit!!) when you're knackered or in a deficit... etc....

I'm guilty of letting the wrong things stick in my head. This isn't a get at anyone, but I remember reading Welshy's journal and where she posted that all last year she didn't eat a single thing she wasn't supposed to during her epic, long competition preparation. To her she was showing how hard she'd tried, that she'd given it 100%, whereas I was sitting there thinking "I cheat quite a bit, can I be that perfect when I am prepping?". Many years ago the local press interviewed a female bodybuilder who was quoted to have said she never ate chips, and others people have said she never eats junk, or drinks alcohol.

I could be mishearing, and it could be chinese whispers but it makes you think everyone sticks to their diet plan and that's it.

I feel a lot better now about it.

Back to my nuts - of which I have had my two teaspoons of peanut butter today without issue.

See, I'm jealous of you being able to do that, because I know I can't/couldn't. So hats off to you!

I did stick to it 100% last year, the year before however was a different story ! .. Not big things but extra oatcakes, spoonfulls of cottage cheese etc
