Is weetabix really bad for you? 17 March 2010 04:57 (permalink)
I was crawling the net and saw some guy saying weetabix is bad for you because it has a high GI of 75 while sugar has something like 65. Is GI everything? What about glycemic loading and insulin index?

No one would consume sugar, cake or snickers simply because they have a lower GI than weetabix would they?

      You could conduct an experiment.

You have your weetabix for breakfast and the guy who said that can have an equal weight of sugar for breakfast.

I don't think it would be difficult to work out who would be the one who would do better on that diet, do you?

It does. See THIS. See THIS also. GI/GL is only one aspect of a food.

Fructose has a very low GI (18). It still has 4kcals/gram though and an excess of fructose is just as bad as an excess of table sugar/dextrose etc.

            1) DON'T PANIC! 2) Assumption is the mother of all cock-ups. 3) Where's the omega-3 fat?

My own view is that the GL of weetabix is low and as it contains fibre, riboflavin and thiamin; I would eat it.

No Weetabix isn't 'bad' for you, it's just not as good as it could be. It's very processed.

depends how far you go with things that are "bad" for you.

some people would say yes because its wheat
