Krav Maga- any good? 20 January 2012 18:52 (permalink)
Hi fellas,

Does anyone have any experience of Krav Maga? Is it good/effective?

Does it include any actual sparring?

I am tempted to go but it is very expensive (£60 for two classes a week).

Thanks guys

Good practical applications if you are likely to get knives guns etc pulled on you ie copper etc but probably not all that good for joe blogs as you should really just run. some good throws combos takedowns etc all with practical applications in mind.

Sparring is involved but its more situation sparring ie do one thing react then done rather than a brawl.

Found it crap for fitness the class i went to lots of tubbies in it. But all in all not bad

Went for a couple of years, its like most things, ie no real world applications for a proper all out street fight, the knife work is terrible, the only good thing I kept was the Rhino block, or helmet block, but if you like the look of it and want to try for trying sake, go for it, imo the best things around now for SD are Lee Morrison, plus Mick Coup seems to talk a lot of sense......

Done a bit, as said, knife defence isn't great....

true it isn't much for fitness and the sparring is more "pressure tests" where they put you under a circumstance and you need to get out of it.

The only time this worked for me (not in a krav class) was when our instructor bought a strobe in and it was a club situation. Not a great fan of pressure tests as it's nothing like a real street fight.

I'd say leave krav and try something else, what else is there in your area?

        oh and £60 a week for 2 classes....mental!
