Buddhism: The wheel (Skt. chakra; Tib. 'khor lo) is one of the most important Buddhist symbols, as it represents the teachings of the Buddha. The Buddha was the one who "turned the wheel of the dharma" and thus the wheel symbol is theDharmachakra, or "wheel of law." The Tibetan term for this symbol, chos kyi'khor lo, means "the wheel of transformation."

chris87 Well I think the idea was, Ben was waiting for his daughter and the crazy French woman, who still have not realized that they are actually dead, only Ben had the flashbacks, but they did not. And I believe the writers where hinting he just wasn't good enough for heaven just yet. He still had alot of reparation to do in purgatory. . As for why some are not there it would be my guess that some are in hell. Walts dad for instance I believe is in Hell. A couple of episodes back we found out he was one of the voices on the island and could never leave. I take it that the Voices are the lost souls. BTW im probably totally wrong YOU JUST MADE ME UNDERSTAND IT !! well...for the most part. the thing is though - it sounds like people go to the flash-sideways world when they die in the real world, and it is here that they wait to go to heaven. but in the flash sideways it wasnt just the lost people, it was the whole world. so there is an implication that this is in a sense the real world...so its a bit strange that all the people from the island meet up in this real world (even though theyre dead and its purgatory) to go to the church together to go to heaven together. does that mean all the other billions of people in this alternate world are also dead and meet up in a similar way to go to heaven? its confusing cause whilst the lost people realise theyre dead (i think?) the rest of the world dont seem to realise it (ie. alex) and are living normal lives. how are the people from the island supposed to have transferred from purgatory to heaven?

Just watched this and thought it was great. I'm glad they left it hanging without explaining it to us like we're idiots. Having said that, I think you guys have got it pretty much right in that the island was real, they died when they died whether it be on the island, in the sub or years later (Hurley, Sawyer, Kate, etc.). Nearly had me and the wife blubbing. Great stuff.

I'm with the whole 'island was real' thing. But what is confusing is at the begining of this season it showed the island under water complete with plane and the Dharma buildings. Implying that the island had sunk and the plane crashed. Also at the very end when the plane flew away. It sounded as if the engine actually failed ? Must watch it again.

The main bits that intrigue me now are: Back in the season where Desmond was flipping between the island and the rest of the world, where he visited Faraday's lab and his mother, etc. Was this "real", or was he flipping into the purgatory reality. Faraday's mother. She seemed to know the score in the purgatory i.e. she knew what it was yet was staying put. But she also knew what was going on when Desmond went to see her and when she had the apparatus under the (same) church to send people back to the island! Was that "real"?

Was that "real"? yes the part where she 'sent' them back was real, that was before all the purgatory stuff. it seems that desmonds 'special power' enabled him to be fully conscious of both reality and purgatory.

I dont think she had an option, I dont think she was allowed to move on from where she was. And she didnt want anyone to realize that what they where experiencing wasnt real. Remember she was a real bad apple in the show, it was her who killed her own son. I think Faraday eventually did move on, and he and the red headed girl Charlotte, probably moved on together when they where ready to let go
