MRI scans and Body Art. 03 April 2009 21:40 (permalink)

I think I know the answer but, How do body peircings and Tat's behave in an MRI Scanner, bearing in mind the metal that nipple rings etc are not magnetic.

I'm pretty sure it's been proven that the metal based inked in tattoos aren't affected my MRI mate.

With the body piercings, you'll be told to take them out.

Sounds like a good idea - you don't want any damage to the ole fella from your Prince Albert being attracted to the magnet.

They do nothing.  Had an MRI last month and they told me it is only big pieces of metal.   I still had my jeans on with 6 metal butons and a small chain attached to it.

would have to be seriously heavy metal tattoo ink! So unless they are bad ass prison tatts you wont have a problem

(this is entirely based on an episode of House I watched once)

i had an MRI last week, they advise you that your tattoo's may get a little warm but i had no problems.
you will be advised to remove your bars/rings

                        remove all metal objects.
have you had any metal fragments in your eye's?
                        any prosthetic devices?
                        pacemaker or implants?

all things they consider oh and some machiens are stronger than others.

as for tattoos i havent clue but im inclined to go with house.
