What does the olympic bar weigh? I can bench 80K + the olympic bar, for some reason I can't get past this????!!! Any ideas, or am I destined to stay at this weight!!!! Could it be my height? I'm 5'6".....

Being only 5'6" is a great advantage in benching, so its not your height thats holding you back

I consider myself to be a strong little fella, but what do you reckon could be holding me back???? Think I should start off on my heaviest weight and then see what happens??

hey paulmc18..Im 5'6½ so I don't think it's your height ;) I've done a 12rep at 141lbs bodyweight. That was several yrs ago and Im stronger now, but I haven't done any max rep sets for 5yrs. I only train fpr max strength and speed. I will try this in my next session though.

How ya doing James, im not gonna try it as it will mess up my training, I like to go heavy, however the other day I did 160 x 10, 190 x 1, 140 x 10, 100 x 20, if I recall rightly I did try it once and got over 50 reps, if theres a cash prize then of course il give it ago !!!

LOL bbig - that will piss my mate off! but then he's fairly new to this. When youre more flexible with your training, would be interested to see how many you can do?

Well after reading your thread I thought I would try it. Sorry I was lazy and did 225 <2 plates each side> and not 220. I got 13 and almost 14 but couldnt lock it out. Im 5'10 and 192lbs with a max Bench of 330 with a shirt on...thats my try, ill give it a go in a month and try for maybe at least 15? ill edit my previous post!

In England our weights are largely in kg, 220 lbs = 100 kg, so it is a nice round number for us. AL

Here was my last workout 225 for 16 275 for 8 315 for 4 Those were all to failure. I am not going to train with 225 anymore. I am going to start with 275 till i get for 10 and then i am going to move up the weight again. It is funny cause a couple weeks ago, i could only get 225 for 10, I was stuck there for about 4 weeks. I said F*CK it and went up to 275, now 4 weeks later, i am close to doing 275 for 10 and put 6 reps on my 225. Almost time to go to 295 or soon to 315 for 6. I can't wait to be able to do that. j

Right, got 225 for 5 then 195 for 10 then tried the 100kg for as many as I could and managed to get a measley 32! bollocks you have now got me intent on smashing through 50 reps at 100kg at the expense of my one rep max!

I think you guys should tell us your heights and bodyweights too. I've never tried 100kg.. but I can do 6 reps with 90kg after a couple of sets (x8) at 82-84kg.. at 78kg bodyweight & 5ft 9. So I think I could maybe do 3-4 with 100kg after just a warm up?.. what you guys think? GTM
