Dave maybe its down to the fact that the members posting are not performing these reps in a way that you would call strict or correct technique. I myself had a PB of 235kg for 2 reps on the bench (although full range these would not have been anywhere near powerlifting regs.) and can't remember best for 100kg but was certainly much higher than 30 reps. I am getting old now lol and not shifting the same poundage but may give it a go sometime.
Incidently the best benching I have personally witnessed was by a friend called Gary Neighbour (held British/European BP records) 4 plates a side for 25 reps. Don't know what he would have repped with 100kg.

I personally know of a freak of nature who completely naturally at a comp in a police training camp in Scotland entered a "bench your own bodyweight for reps" comp. He weighed at the time 100kg and bench his bodyweight for wait for it...70 reps.

I was humbled when I heard this, there is always someone better than you!

Scruffy yes this was at Harlow sports centre, I lived in Grays at the time, now live just outside Chelmsford. This would also have been between 10-15 years ago if you trained at Harlow remember Dean, Kirk, Jonny Cambell. At the time I was competing in the ANB. Haven't seen Gary and the rest for a while now may take a trip back - miss those times greatly.

yeah John Cambell is still down there or was a few years back, the gym is very quite now all the powerlifters had moved on, not the same atmosphere at all, so thats why we moved on....

Scruffy if you trained there between 1990-1995ish you would have seen me, whats your name? Thats a shame as at that time the atmosphere was great. Where do you train now? does Gary still train? I 'd love to see him again. A small world eh!!

James

Following on from muscle eggs post on how many reps people can do with 220lbs (100kg) on the bench press, I thought it a great idea to turn this into another MT competition.
See:
http://www.muscletalk.co.uk/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=47312
I saw a few of you had tried it and so I challanged a few of my friends at home. Currently I have got 18 reps, but I told my friend (who is training for strongman and is basically a power house) and I thought he'd get about 30 - he got a massive 41 !!!!!!!

So over the next few weeks, on chest days, why dont some of you give it a go and post your reps here?

I am aiming for 21

What a great idea for the forum.

That's some good repping James!

.............and now, 4 years down the line there is an easily available online resource such as youtube; this with mobile phones with video facility being commonplace, I think all such claims from now on should be with video evidence.

I really do believe the amount of claims of 20+ reps with 100k would reduce dramatically!!!

Yes: unsubstantiated Internet claim vs. Youtube video is somewhat analogous to the disparity between equipped clown fed and raw legitimate fed lifting...

FWIW, I'll be benching later today, and even with the considerable assistance of Internet hyperbole, I'm pretty sure - eheu! - that I won't be getting anywhere near 100kg x 20!

Not sure what I could do. I'd imagine I could get close to 20 (+15) tng, but not paused. I know one thing I'd be ****ed and my shoulders would hurt after lol!
