Very interesting thread this. I don't have to think about making any atlas stones till far in the future (if I finally get into strongman training that is). I guess for putting lead into the stone, you'd need to make sure it was centred roughly, otherwise the load of the stone would be off centre. This would make an interesting article!

Slaters in America sell lead inserts and foam inserts (to lighten), shame nowhere in Britain does. The moulds they sell would be nice to get over here too.

My guess would be write up the process of making the stone and add as many pictures into as well, as visual aids. Would be a great article indeed!

****ing ell £65 for postcrete!!! mine cost about £2. half a bag of cement 3 buckets of sand and 5-6 buckets of stones. making them is easy you just make it wet eneough so that it creates a smooth finish. set it on a few tyres and rock it back of forward to bring the water to the top. moud was from slaters it was dear plus postage we should have a MT mould rental service. i'm getting a 20" mound and have a 16". then the bloke for the gym in gonna lend me a 130KG mould.

I agree James. would be a very useful article for the site. I'd love to know how to make some smaller stones as well, for more mini strongman stuff. Mini, as in short arse and lightweight.

just remebered this thread I made one there last week. mould release, paint this on the inside. taped up mould on tyre filled. I let it sit for 3 days then take the mould off. if you are doing it in the summer hose it everyday after day 5 till day 14. roll it off tyres and tap the plastic rim with wooden block until it is free. roll over onto other side, which it flat and tap the outside of the mould and take the other side off. needs to site like this for at least 3 weeks. here is two I made earlier.

the stone will be too heavy for most so you might as well keep it and use it on a sledge for dragging
