***Members' Interview with badladmark***
01 October 2009 13:59
( permalink)
badladmark has agreed to be this weeks interviewee. The usual things apply: please use this topic to ask him any questions about lifestyle, training, diet and progress, or anything else. Please, nothing too personal or invasive. Please bear with him and give him time to reply. Mark, thanks for agreeing to take part in this interview. 1) Can you give us a brief rundown of how you got into working out and how long you've been training? 2) What is your current occupation? 3) Your favourite recipe? 4) Aside from training, what are your other interests? Thanks!!

First off, I'll say that I actually don't really mind what people ask, and have a feeling that there will be a couple of personal questions that people might want to ask, on the basis of a few things I've said on here and from information I've already shared about myself, and that's fine by me. I might not answer, of course, but you can ask.... So, in response to your first questions. 1) I'd half-heartedly trained for the whole health and general fitness thing on and off for years, but never really took it seriously and it all dwindled off quite quickly. About three and a half years ago, I noticed I was putting on weight, and like most men over 30, it was all just going straight to my stomach. I got up one day and was sat eating my breakfast and glanced down and saw this little pot belly and decided there and then that I had to do something about it, so got dressed and signed myself up at the local gym that morning. My main motivation I have to say was vanity. It was all to do with how I look, rather than noble health motivations. The first year was a bit hit and miss, although I did start to get rid of the little belly. Its only really in the last two years that I'd say I started to really take it seriously and learn enough about diet and training and so on to do it all properly. There's so much to learn, that I had to do a lot of trial and error to find out what worked for me. 2) Current occupation. I work in education of health care professionals, and more recently have started a part time PhD which is looking at treatment for mental health problems. 3) My favourite recipe changes from week to week. I guess it depends on the point of view you're asking- simplicity or tastiness. I've got tons of recipes, and I love cooking. I particularly love cooking for people. My tuna enchiladas is a particularly popular dish, which is good because its so simple and takes about 20 minutes to make and is dead yummy. 4) Other interests.... hmmm... to be honest, I wouldn't say I have any hobbies or interests as such. I read a lot. I listen to a lot of music. I don't watch TV or moviesg. I prefer to interact with people, rather than sit at home and watch other people's lives or invented ones so if I'm not out and about socialising, I'm mucking about online talking to people. I'm a sociable sort and I get a lot of emotional nourishment from interacting with others so I suppose you could say that people are my number one interest.

You mentioned on here before about your reccy drug usage, how often do you do them (if indeed you still do) and how do you find they effect your goals?

Reborn: 1. How old are you now? 36 2. How tall and weight? 5'7, 11stone 3. Whats your training structured like 3 day split programme. 4-5x per week See all very decent......so far. Well done. I expect you're just warming up... ;0) Redbull: You mentioned on here before about your reccy drug usage, how often do you do them (if indeed you still do) and how do you find they effect your goals? I usually have one completely wild weekend per month. Maybe one other night in the month as well, but not always. How does it affect my goals? that depends. I plan ahead, and drink lots of smoothies and shakes and stuff so the lack of appetite doesn't hammer me too much. I have to say I think it helps with fat loss! In terms of how it affects me, it might mean I take a couple of days off after a heavy weekend, but that's fine by me. Maybe it slows up achieving my goals, I dunno, but to me, going out is an important part of my life and I'm sensible the rest of the time so I don't think it causes too much damage to my goals. Packup Pete: How many people have you slept with?! I haven't kept count, but its a four figure number. TheLoveMuscle: You look like you're in really good shape, have you stayed this size or are you bigger/smaller at the moment? I am smaller at the moment.

Hello mate, What are you training goals for the next year, get bigger or just stay in shape? Do you intend to continue your one wild weekend a month lifestyle till you are old and grey, or do you think theer will be a point that you will want to settle into a boring life? What is (or has been) your most painful tattoo/piercing/body ornament? Cheers, you're a good choice for an interview!

Omario: What are you training goals for the next year, get bigger or just stay in shape? I'm currently around 13% body fat, and I'm wanting to get that down to about 8%. Lowest I've had it before was about ten back in the new year, and I've done a bulk since then so its just trim that down a bit. I'd also like to get a bit bigger. I'm thinking maybe about another 7-10 pounds should do it. I'm not interested in being massive and think my goals are entirely achievable. My aim is to be there by about May next year. Do you intend to continue your one wild weekend a month lifestyle till you are old and grey, or do you think theer will be a point that you will want to settle into a boring life? I don't think I will ever get too old to go out. I really cannot see me ever settling into a 'boring life'. I've got mates who are a lot older than me who party just as hard as I do. I'll carry it on for as long as I am physically able to do so, and then I'll feel pleased that I did it all, and not wish I'd enjoyed myself more. Life's too short and I intend to extract every last drop of fun out of it that I can. What is (or has been) your most painful tattoo/piercing/body ornament? my nipple piercings were intense pain, but it only lasted about three seconds. The tattoo which goes across my shoulders was however excruciating and that lasted for several hours, so I think that tattoo wins. It was a lot more painful than any of my other ones. Cheers, you're a good choice for an interview! Aw, shucks! Medusa: would you elaborate a little on your PHD subject, how's it going? I'm interested in patient's views on what actually helped (as opposed to what the health professionals think worked). How is it going? Slowly. Its still very early days and I'm still doing a lot of preliminary stuff. what are you currently reading? I'm afraid Its nothing that exciting- its all research methodology stuff! I'll spare you the finer details, unless you're *really* interested.

Medusa: you never take a break and treat yourself to a bit of fiction? I haven't read any fiction in a long time. A friend gave me 'the timewaster letters' and 'return of the timewaster letters' a few weeks ago. They are kicking around on the kitchen table and I am slowly working my way through them when I want a bit of a break from the work stuff.

medusa_ 4 badladmark Bit of a personal one... When did you realise you were gay? Reason I ask, the only two gay people I have met (or who have admitted being gay), were in a hetro marrage when they changed their mind. This suprised me as I would of thought it is something one would realise at a young age.

Medusa: what style of ink do you favour? All mine are tribal. I like tribal best, provided its well done. I can't be doing with crappy tattoos. I had a bad one years ago, but managed to get it covered over with a really good design that was well done. FatFreeVanillaIce: When did you realise you were gay? I always knew, really. Struggled with it a bit in early teens, but just came to terms with it. I've got a number of friends who didn't realise until they were married and I had a far easier time of it without all the added complications. I was out to my friends at 15 and out to all my family by 19.

When you joined MT were you worried that people would judge you by your sexuality? What sort of music do you listen to? Is the gym now ingrained as part of your lifestyle for good?
