First off let me say u seem like a top bloke. You mention your other half in ome posts. How supportive is she of your whole SM ambitions??

Yeah she's pretty supportive.

One of the good points is that she also has her sport which occupies her time when I'm training. I train in the afternoon rather than evening now so that helps give me more time with her, but she is busy every week night with either her football training or work. We're together on Saturday evenings after she finishes work so I do cardio/ uni work during the day and when I train events on Sundays she either has football training or a match.

One thing she didn't like for a while, but has gotten used to is the amount of food I eat when we go out. Depending where we go I may have upto 3burgers in a bun for my meal along with fries/starters etc, or other places I may just have a few extra sides or starters etc.

Overall she's very supportive we strongman, but has also helped me a ton since I lost my Dad. I really don't know if I would be coping as well as I am if I was single.

To have achieved what you have and what you have gone through recently, at such a tender age!?!

Remarkable.
Squat: 363kg

Bench: 195kg

Deadlift: 300kg

@ (currently 114kg)

To be honest mate, its not alot really. I gain very easily and need to watch what I eat carb-wise. When I bulked up from Nov 07 to Feb 08 I went crazy with carbs and gained 3stones in 3months. I think now I've redistributed the body composition that I now am able to eat a bit more **** cause my muscle mass allows me to have a higher metabolism.
 
Heres my current eating:
 
Breakfast: 4weetabix w/ semi skimmed milk, whey shake
Mid-Morning: Starting to eat a mix of dried fruit and nuts here along with a casien shake
Lunch: Pack of Tesco cooked chicken w/ packet of Uncle Benn's micro rice and large bowl or veg
Mid-Afternoon: Casien Shake and large packet of kettle crisps (my guilty pleasure)- Depending when I train this is either mid afternoon or mid evening
Dinner: Pack of Tesco cooked chicken w/ packet of Uncle Benn's micro rice and large bowl or veg
Pre-Bed: Casien Shake

Thanks mate, that means alot. As I said what has happened has given me new motivation to achieve the journey he saw me start at the age of 17 at my first comp in Fraserburgh. He was proud at my first Scottish in 2008, even when I messed up and came last and then I think it really made him see that I have a real talent when I finished 5th at the Scottish this year. He was proud as punch when I called home to tell him the result!
 
What breaks my heart was that 5days after he died I was set to go over to Belfast for UKs where I was going to get all the guys to sign a tshirt for him so that would be a little gift for him from me.

Not to sound funny or anything, but I'm much smaller than you and I'd starve if that was all I had in a day LOL!!! Amazing how different people react to food!! I would have assumed a strongman ate full cows etc on a daily basis!!

Cheers mate, I know its messed up just how little I eat. Works though cause right now I'm maintaining a constant weight of 300lbs, like 136kgs!

Pre-comp food intake is probably close to double that for the week before it though just to ensure I'm ready for the big day.

No mate, I never went to UKs. Stayed at home to get stuff sorted for the funeral etc.

When I make it to WSM I will get one signed by everyone and have it framed and put on the wall in my mum and dads house back home in Aberdeenshire.

I think that if thats what he wants to do then who am I to object. He's won WSM 5times and has become a millionaire from his successes in the sport. If he feels its time to start I new chapter then I hope he does as well in it as he did strongman.
 
Equipped powerlifting is ok if squats are to depth etc, but multi ply feds are just taking the piss now IMO.

Ken, what would you have done differently training wise if you knew then what you know now??


To be honest mate I don't think I would do anything differently. I actually got into a big debate with the wee bro about 6weeks or so ago and IMO he and many other guys at the uni gym for example over complicate things.
 
When I first started training I didn't have access to chains, bands, boxes, boards etc etc and all I did was squat bench and deadlift. I feel that just doing the basics and with heavy weights gave me the best base possible for further success.
 
I never used a belt in training until I was deadlifting 200kgs or squatting about 180kg.
 
I hear guys at uni saying that their max squat is 150kg wrapped at 120kg BW and that they're buying one of the best single ply suits on the market and the question that comes to mind is WHY??!!
 
Why jump into equipment when you're clearly not ready? Why overcomplicate training using boards for bench, chains/ bands on squat/ deads etc.
 
IMO the best way to train initially and the way I did train is just through using simples exercises that don't isolate muscles, but are big compound movements.
 
So again, I wouldn't change a thing!
