This week member richyd is happy to answer your questions.

The usual things apply: please use this topic to ask him any questions about  lifestyle, training, diet and progress, or anything else.
Please, nothing too personal or invasive. Please bear with him and give him time to reply.

richyd, thanks for agreeing to take part in this interview. A few questions from me to start with:

1) Can you give us a brief rundown of how you got into working out and how long you've been training?

2) What is your current occupation?

3) What is th worst job you have had?

4) Favourite meal?

Thanks!!

    1) I got into training to put on size for rugby. I managed to do this and do quite well at rugby to. Had quite few injurys and lost heart. So just decided to concentrate on my training. Which to date is one of my greatest regrets.

    2) I am a fitness instructor and liesure attendant for my local council.

    3) Working for asda as a home delivery picker. It wasnt so much the job it was the iluminous green outfit i had to wear. Used to get loads of stick of my m8. Used to constantly sing the song to me lol.

    4) My PWO meal steak, new pots, veg and yogurt for desert :-)

Thought id put link up to few pics of me. Ive recently finished dieting. Didnt want to put them in general im bit shy.

          Hi BIG P

          1) I would of told him that any one can look big in a t shirt its whats under it that counts.

Training i would tell him to up his rep range. That 6-8 rep range on every ex is not good for quality size. Might be good for mass but he needed more quality size.

Nutrition i would of told him your carb in take is way to much. More carbs doesnt equate to more size or strength. It just equates to more fat!!!!

Right now m8 the welsh portalbot show next september. Really want prove a few people wrong. And my m8 and one time welsh nabba winner :-) keeps nagging me to do a show just once.

In your comp prep diet, do you go for any cheat meals? Or are you hardcore?

                Hi des

Wen i was dieting i would go few weeks with out a cheat meal. But i would have one now and again. Worst time for me and still is is waking up in the middle of the night. I always crave sweet things dieting or bulking i dont know why. So lot of the time i would have some form of chocolate or a biscuit or 10 lol.

Im really trying at the moment to stop doing it. But my bro still has the idea that bulking is all about slamming loads calories in. He has got loads of biscuits and choc in the house. But worst thing is he can do it and still stay relatively lean. MAKES ME SICK!!!!

                    Thanks hazel

It was for about 4 months in total. It was a graduall decrease of carbs and an increase of cardio. Can honestly say it was very hard and i wasnt a nice person to be around.

In the end think i was dwn to about 70g carbs and an hours cardio 6 xs week.

                    BIGP

I just try and shoot for about 40g in each meal. Having 6 meals and a PWO shake i think thats enough. Plus i got james on the case so he sorts that out lol.

good choice, there's nothing quite like hauling up a big weight :-)

didn't know you had crohns - afraid I haven't read any of the thread linked - does it limit food choices much for you?

I got ulcerative colitis but they are nearly identical. Im under one of top specialist in britain and even he isnt 100% if ive got one or the other.

No not really though it probably should. I tend not to let my illness dictate my life or food. There are certain things that are supposedly gut irritants such as caffine. But i stupidly took 2g of it yest instead of 200mg and i was fine lol.

Only time it does limit food and my life style changes is on a flair up. I change to all refined food. For simple reason your body finds it easier to break down. But touch wood havent had a flair up since december and long may it continue. Thats probably the kiss of death!!!

Good to see you interviewed Rich.  Like you, I'm a fellow UC sufferer, so I know how it can play havoc with your training and gains.  Good to hear you're on remission and that the gains you've been making are really good - keep it up.

When you had a relapse of UC, what was the worst thing in your opinion, ie what was the thing which adversely affected your life most?

                                Hi odog

                                Cheers m8

Id definately say im leaner and got better abs and he would agree. Think he is bit envious of my abs as its not one of his better body parts. But he is good bit bigger fair play.

But he has a more asthetically pleasing physique than me. Wide shoulders, small waist, wide back. Where as im more thicker. But im going to work very hard this year on width. Bit of luck i can convince him to enter the portalbot again with me.

Ive got a lot of work to do i know but il give it a crack. Iv got the mentallity to dieted hard so condition shouldnt be a prob. I just need more size now which aint gon be easy lol.

Plan is to do cardio xs 30mins after every weights sess. Stay as lean as possible and try and put on quality size. James is helping me so im sorted there. I just get bit worried bout bulking lean lol. Im so used to slamming food into me i worry that what im eating wont be enough and il be wasting valuable time.

                                James

Worst thing for me is putting on size or get in shape and watching it all disapear in a matter of weeks. As you know most my flair ups have been bad. So it just wasnt physically possible for me to train.

I love being in shape and going from big ish to small and fat was very disheartening. As training is such big part of my life as all my close friends an family know it was the first thing they commented on.

Hopfully know my meds are sorted and a take them religously. I just want 1 year flair up free to train hard to see what i can really do. Id really like to enter the portalbot next year. Just one show then i feel i can relax on my training a bit and il be happy.

                                    Hi Rich,

You've done very well to make such good progress, what with the UC.  My dad has this condition also, so I have seen how debilitating it can be..although thankfully he seems to have it fairly well under control now.

Where did you last go on holiday and where will you go on the next one?

                                      Thanks RHF

Its got to be the most embarrasing illness ever.

Last holiday was rome if you dont included festivals. Iv always loved history and especially the romans. I was totally awe struck when i first saw the colesseum. Its an amazing city and would recommend any one to go that hasnt.

Next one hopfully will be over xmas to some where in the cannary island with the boys.
