Muhammad Ali's legendary trainer Angelo Dundee dies
03 February 2012 18:15
( permalink)
Not sure if this has been posted (I have done a search and found nothing). Angelo Dundee was Ali's trainer (amongst others) for over 20 years. He trained many great world champions. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/boxing/16849201 R.I.P

Sadly anyone other than people of a certain age and boxing nuts probably wont know who he is, look at this thread, if he'd been a football manager then far more people would be interested and posting.

Very well said, Reborn, and, sadly, true. IIRC he was very active in the careers of Jimmy Ellis and Sugar Ray Leonard too. He must have been in his 90s? Had a good innings!

He was instrumental in the career of Sugar Ray (for me the greatest boxer I have ever seen), in fact telling him as he went out in the last round of his fight with Hearns that he had blown it and his only hope was to knock him out, which he did.

RIP Agree with the above. You have to be an old fart to remember the "Golden Age" of boxing but I'm one of them. Angelo Dundee was one of the great contributors to that era.
