My protein whey... 09 March 2010 07:34 (permalink)
I was surfing around last night and I read an article that said myprotein whey had lots of nasties in it?

I use it but on the bag it doesn't list loads of ingredients at all, the only thing I could see was some sort of stabalizer or something like that?...does anyone know if this is true?  What nasties?...sorry I can't be more precise but I was just srfing around and can't remember exactly what was said but as I was having my protein drink this morning it kinda played on my mind....just wondering now....

      Hi,

Where did you read this please?

Our products are on the contrary. We only put the absolute minimum of ingredients in to get a high quality product without the “nasties”. We do of course sell unflavoured whey which is 100% whey protein so completely natural.

Is there a market for a naturally flavoured whey or milk protein I wonder instead of the reliance on sucralose?!?!

I don't know but I once tried Reflex's Natural Whey which is naturally flavoured. I got chocolate flavour, and it was absolutely horrific. Honestly, couldn't get it down, and I have a massive palate, I can eat practically anything! So if someone could find a way of flavouring whey naturally and not making it taste like crap then I'm sure it would do well!

(Can't speak for all naturally flavoured whey products btw, just my experience with that Reflex product)

I agree. I haven't tried the natural whey, but will get a tub of the strawberry and see if it is bearable. I prefer not to have artificial sweeteners if I can help it, so go for unflavoured whey.

A Whey protein sweetened with stevia that tasted half decent would be a winner.

Reflex's Natural Whey in strawberry isn't bad if mixed with milk or quark...poor with water though.

I've been using myprotein products for a round a year now and I have to say there absolutely brilliant – high quality products – as good as any others on the market. I use their whey isolate, total milk and whey formula and have used various other products from there and I love the company. Not just because the stuff is reasonably priced but because I know im getting quality when I order.

Also if any of you have tasted cheap protein before you know a lot of it smells or tastes vile whereas myprotein stuff is nicely flavoured and is easy to drink as its neutral.

I'd say that there are several companies selling TONS of unflavoured product which would be screwed if there was no market. That's without mentioning many well-known brands which sell 'natural' product (same as unflavoured). Last time I did a calculation (it'll have grown since) my best guess was 80+ tonnes a year between us.

uh oh!! hope I'm not in trouble for asking....I can't remember where it was as I was surfing around and just caught this blog?...maybe not an actual "article" article..it was someone who said they were phasing out the MP whey and trying to find a product that was "natural" without bits and bobs in...I translated that in my head as being "nasties"....I was surprised cos I was recommended to MP by others and am on my second bag of unflavoured whey, and when I read about it on the MP site I couldn't see anything untowards in the ingredients myself...errm....I did try to find it again this morning so I could advise you where it was but as I was meandering about from site to site It could have been anywhere....if its any use for you to know...I won't be chucking out my bag anytime soon.....sorry I couldn't be more precise....

Was it perchance JAG Blog ?

I think this post perhaps? JAG

She talks about it in other posts too, but that was the first one I think.

                                  Specifically she says:

"My post raised the question about me using whey protein, which is highly processed and contains artificial sweeteners."

When talking about MP True Whey.

I was asking the question cos I'm new to this game and was just wondering for my own interest. I use the unflavoured one myself, and I did read the info on the MP site before I bought it, and I don't have a problem with it.

It's down to individuals what they want to put in their bodies isn't it, and if this lady doesn't want to use it any more then it's up to her.

Maybe I shouldn't have asked. Sorry if I made anyone cross. I will be thinking twice before I ask anything else.....

ps. I just went to read properly the link that was put up. This lady does say later in her piece that it is the process she doesn't like and the sweetners. I think this was the piece but it wasn't a great big one like that if I remember corectly, and as I said "I translated that as meaning nasties".

Never had a problem with MP whey. Always top notch when I order from them.
