New Avatar Trailer
17 November 2009 22:37
( permalink)
I can't quite make up my mind whether I am really looking forward to this film or not - it looks visually spectacular but kind of flat. I know it is pretty much down to the cameras they used to capture it, but then it has been shot and directed for 3D, which may be why the 2D web versions looks this way. I'm hoping the 3D will bring this movie alive and it is one film I am truly looking forward too, which I have genuinely not looked forward to a live action film since Lord Of The Rings. I can't wait for this, I'm think it's going to be epic. I might actually break out the pipe and get stoned before I go in!

I was looking forward to this, but I think the trailer looks terrible, no better than fmv from a video game. I'm slightly encouraged by just how uninspiring it looks though as for it to miss the mark by that much, there must be a lot more to be revealed (including the 3-D effect).

Umm Darth...you got cateracts or anything?, cause those are some of the best people in CGI scenes I have seen to date, Cameron wouldnt bother with this film after 10 years if it wasnt going to be the CGI benchmark for the next 10 years, a'la T2.

Hi Cu3ed, no, perfect eyesight here. Saw the trailer in the Odyssey last night and it just doesn't look that great to me - plus the character design is uninspiring to say the least. When I heard about Avatar I expected to be stunned, but I just think it looks very unimpressive so far. I'm still going to see it though, as my thinking is that there must be more to it than this. I expected a quantum leap in animation, but it just doesn't deliver.

Sam Worthington who is the main lead in the Movie was on TV Sunday night-he was in a cafe toilet having a crap when James Cameron phoned him to ask if he would star in the movie. He replied "Well I've got to fix the breaks on me car this week and help a mate move house next Saturday so I should be right"!! Hes the most down to earth Aussie bloke ever.
How dare you queston my heritage!! theirs a bottle of HP sauce in my fridge.

Ohh you where in Storm?, that could be it dude, bloody gone down hill, should try the HD Projectors in the Odeon, I think the trailer is just the tip of things, Cameron always did that with trailers, and to me theirs big gaps missing in this as well. Remember when T2 was coming out, it wasnt known that Arni was going to be the good guy....hence why the plot details on Avatar have been on a complete legal lock down. Sorry forgot to add, Cameron has been really boasting (when he talks) about the 3D aspect, thats meant to be the real leap forward here.

What you have to realise is that Cameron developed a special camera and data capture system to create the CGI, so technically I expect excellence and it probably will no doubt set the standard for a number of years. I really do hope the imagery in 3D will raise the bar and make what seems very flat (think Star Wars Ep 1) will really become something quite beautiful, especially Pandora with all the foliage. I don't think it will draw in the crowds like he did with Titanic but only because I feel it is a very narrow genre and will only attract a certain age group, no matter what level of excellence it eventually achieves.

I read the script in 2000, I thought it was stunning and I have been waiting nearly a decade for this treatment - Cameron will surpass himself I am sure but I am also sure it will not be the financial blockbuster that is hoped but it will do very well.
