New NHS card
02 February 2012 08:48
( permalink)
About 6 months ago I had a phone call about sending out new NHS cards and the call was just clarifying who lived at the address, in order to send out new cards etc. My dad received a similar phone call on the same day as well. I never received a new card and neither has he. I'm just wondering if anyone else had a similar phone call, especially interested in anybody in the south west / Wales area. Thanks!

We don't have any NHS cards at all. Or do you mean the E111 cards that you can take abroad to use in foreign hospitals etc?

No it was definitely something to do with the NHS card / NHS number, no mention of any international / European ones. I just have a hunch it was not a genuine phone call and want to know if anyone else has had similar.

I have never heard of an NHS card before, though I guess it could be a regional thing.

Hmm ok thanks for the replys. Pretty certain now it was a bogus phone call. The woman clearly had access to some information as she knew my name and address, also knew my dad's address and that I once lived there. She then said my sister's name and I said she lives abroad now, in which case she said something like she would just remove her off the list. She then asked about my brother, I said he lived abroad as well. She then asked me for his address. That's when I got slightly suspicious, as why hadn't she asked for my sister's address??? Because I was a bit suss I said i didn't have it to hand. I then said while you're on the phone are you able to tell me what my mum's NHS number is as she was staying with me and was due to go to a private hospital that day and we didn't know her NHS number for the form. She said her system had gone down and she would look it up when back up and ring back. She did ring back and gave me the NHS number (she knew mum's address etc) ... and she asked had I been able to find my brother's address. I really did find it quite suspicious then and so lied and said i can't find it, we don't really talk anymore anyway (total lie, I work with him LOL). My Dad had the same phone call, I checked with him today - he couldn't remember at first but when I jogged his memory he said oh yes, she did ask about your brother. Obviously someone trying to track him down - but what sort of organization would have access to that information? I suppose the NHS number she gave me for my mum could have been a false one but we used it at the hospital and there have been no repercussions.
