New weight loss pill? - 20 November 2009 14:38 ( #1 )
Anyone got any thought's on this new weight loss pill?

I'm extremely skeptical of, Losing nine pounds would take just three weeks and two days.  It does not say what else these people were doing to get those result's.

this is going to be one of those things to fight obesity where obese people carry on eating their obese diets and expect to be skinny in a week from this miracle pill. the main ingredient "irvingia" comes from african mango. has anyone ever heard of this being used for fat loss? i would like to see some scientific studies.

Agreed. How much would a typical woman lose on a well structured diet over the same 10 weeks? If 'Biggest Loser' etc are any indicators then the same. I'm with Adam, a pill that works will make the lazy worse not better. It'll be 'I can eat what I like and still stay slim'.

Yep either that or they will eat less but still opt for the same bad choices which means even less in the way of vits, mins, phytochemicals and of course fibre with the potential for more of certain assoc'd diseases....

another victory in the medicalisation of obesity.

But, for someone actually following a diet and exercise plan it may help with a cut. Agreed that there will be loads of obese people using this thinking they can sit on their butts eating 4000 calories a day and stay slim while popping a pill. I can just imagine a surge in orders at certain times of the year, after Christmas (New Year Resolution), holiday time.

Any over reliance on aids, even for thus on 'cuts', is not a good thing IMO.

Yeah .... I'm totally skeptical as well when it comes to losing weight fast through pills. The fastest way I've done it was to juice fast for about 7 days..... Felt great and lost about 10 lbs in the meantime

I really can't see the point in a "juice diet". Yes you'll loose weight of course, but you will loose a lot of muscle as well.
Just drinking juice is not exactly good for your body.

You'd be MUCH better off eating a sensible diet IMO, I.E Low/No carb and High Protein with plenty of fruit and veg and exercise.

It may take a little longer this way, but you will no doubt look a lot better afterwards, and your body will thank you for it.

that may be a very fast way of losing weight but it is by no means the healthiest. loss of muscle mass is inevitable. a change of lifestyle that is maintainable is the only cure for obesity and for dieting a steady 2-3lbs per weeks is a healthy amount in my opinion.

No i wouldn't do it for weight loss purposes, it's what you do when you want to do a really good detox. Or so the tv would have you believe anyway. Richard Blackwood & a load of other celebs did it didnt they. Seen a few programs about it.

Muscle while good, isnt the be all and end all.

I saw something recently which said that there is NO SCIENCE at all behind a detox.

"Detox" is just a word that companies use to make people by there products... I mean, what does it actually mean? IMO it is just a made up concept.

Drinking plenty of water, while having a sensible diet would do the same as what you think "detoxing" will do, it is just that the companies selling the detox products/diets will not tell you this.

Muscle mass may not the be all and end all for everyone I guess, but what people normally fail to realise is that when you "fad diet" you may loose a lot of weight in a short amount of time, but you end up loosing a lot of muscle mass and some body fat, and you just end up looking like a smaller version of yourself, along with unwanted body fat as you previously had. Then when you get fed up of the fad diet, you end up going back to your old ways, and what happens? You put all the weight back on, and because your body has not been getting the nutrients it needs, end up with higher body fat % than before the diet, as the natural process for your body is too hold onto more fat.

Like Adam says, lifestyle changes are what is needed to beat obesity.

I hate fad diets with a passion (if you hadn't already noticed LOL).

Bloody hell lads,I only asked how he got on. whats the harm in trying something new? My diet is spotless and the amount of cardio i do is up there with anyone one on here. I understand some people like quick fixes andthe title of this topic "new weight loss pill" but not everyone is like that. By going by what your saying you could call a cut before a comp a fad. Where as really it's not  at all, however we all know it would be impossible to keep your bf at that level all year round, it would be seriously unhealthy.

And regards to supplements, they are aids, there to be used for the benefits they offer. do you think ronnie or jay cutler just took a load of supplements & got big or took some weight loss tabs and got ripped??!! no they had to train hard & eat right along with the "supplements".

If no one tried new things how would we ever develop? I can understand what you are trying to get at but you cant just write anything different to what you do as wrong

Re:New weight loss pill? - 23 November 2009 22:01 ( #15 )
Don't take the comments personal mate, I was just speaking generally as to how I see diets, as a diet, generally, is a fad!

A cut before a comp would not be called a fad, just because it's not, it is done for a reason by BB's who understand what the results will be and have no false hopes that their body will stay that way from then on.

I dont understand your rant about supps either? No one is dissin' supps in general, but there are many supps out there which are unecessary, like most diet pills!

Anyone with half a brain would know that Ronnie and Jay didn't get big by taking a load of supps LOL and again, I don't see why you have made this reference either????
Ronnie and Jay obviously train hard.. no one is questioning this. Although their supplements are actually steroids, but I'm sure BSN would like you to think that Ronnie got to the size he is by taking NO Explode ;-D
