Did that 3rd set see a little leg hitching LOL or was that when you took most of that 4'59 up while resting

Haha, not at all! Chins today actually felt great. I did the 8, had about 20secs rest then 3 more... About 60secs rest then 6 more. 40secs rest, 3 more. About 80secs rest then 4 and so....

Rest times were staggered. I may try a more conventional 3x8 or 4x6 next week.

I'll spent the next month bumping it until it goes to a second page

Re:Time for a kick up the backside... - 10 December 2009 14:07
Average session today. I've had a pretty hectic week so far, late nights/early mornings trying to meet deadlines etc. As a result a cold has finally caught up with me and felt pretty rotten this morning. My nose managed to expel a ridiculous amount of mucus it was scary. I'm ashamed to say I think I took things abit easier today...

10/12

Squat
20 x 10
60 x 5
80 x 5
90 x 3
100 x 3
110 x 3
120 x 3
130 x 3
110 x 6

MP
(...first rep always cleaned from floor)
20 x 8
40 x 3
50 x 3
60 x 2
70 x 1
80 x 1

Push Press
85 x 3 **

MP
50 x 10
50 x 10

DB Row
40 x 8
40 x 8
40 x 8

Supersetted With...

Weighted Situps
+15kg x 10
+15kg x 10
+15kg x 10

**The 85 overhead was meant to be a strict PB attempt. My mind wasn't on the ball at all and ended up pushing pressing it. 85x1 PP is lame, hence why I then pushed 2 more out. Bit crap but what the heck. Hoping to manage a 50kg x 1 DB PP over Xmas/new years, see how I cope.

DV. Pair of DB's? No ****ing chance

T0NY, cheers for popping by. I've only done DB PP'ing once before and it's single arm. In no way would I have the co-ordination to do two. 50kg is very much a conservative goal, but therefore achievable! Anything more is a bonus.

Don't worry though, your 77kg PB will be safe

Decided to go with a fairly simple 4day split when I go home for xmas.

Pullovers
DB Row
Rear Laterals

Weighted Situps

Or something along those lines anyway!

Re:Time for a kick up the backside... - 16 December 2009 17:34
Haha **** yeah. Great session. Weight this morning was 14st 8lbs! 1 stone lighter than my summer weight, with no loss of strength (makes you wonder what that 1stone was made of). I'm not actually trying to lose weight so I hope this trend doesn't continue

I've just realised that it's been 6days since I last trained, been pretty busy with work etc. So today was spent experimenting with PP-ing technique.

16/12

Push Press
(...first rep cleaned)
20 x 3
40 x 3
50 x 2
60 x 2
70 x 2
80 x 2
90 x 2
95 x 3 PB

Flat Bench
60 x 5
90 x 5
110 x 2
110 x 2 (wide grip)
110 x 2 (wider... too wide)
110 x 2 (back to normal grip)

Seated Rear Laterals
7.5kg x 15
7.5kg x 15
7.5kg x 15

DB Tri Ext.
20kg x 15
20kg x 15
20kg x 15

Supersetted With...

Situps
bw x 20
bw x 20
bw x 20

Done and dusted in about an hour. Very happy with PP. It was only a couple of weeks ago I failed 95x1. Last time I hefted 95kg over my head I was a stone heavier so feeling rather chuffed with myself Aim was for two, but everything seemed so right. Had 4-5minute rest, the beat to my song I was listening to was just kicking in, NO Xplode was obivously just kicking in. It all seemed so perfect.

Quite a lot of build up work to it too, making it more impresive TBH. A good way to round off to your year

Cheers matey am pretty made up tbh. The last week has seen me mostly glued to my laptop and my head in books. My eating was pretty poor over the weekend too and I didn't have high hopes. But this was my last OH barbell session for a while so am very happy with how it went. I just kept thinking of what Tony said, "jumping with weights", seemed to do the trick... even though I did smash the ceiling at one point.

Your still allowed to smash me on benching, deadlifting, squatting... so let me have my moment

Or you can use this to spur yourself on for your next session?

And we don't talk about that thread... Lead balloon anyone?

Besides, I've got a 'friendly' comp running with BadBoy/Sheeps Clothing for strict BW press, giving me an added incentive. Care to join in?

Re:Time for a kick up the backside... - 17 December 2009 17:20
Cheers Iain! Wasn't as smooth as your effort, but got it up nonetheless.

Not a great session today. Have had a weird back pain since the weekend, started off really painful but by yesterday it had subsided enough for OH/bench work. Squatting today however, was not going to happen, was popping codeine most of the night but it's still uncomfortable. Decided to give front squats a go having not done them for 6months. Not a great effort, infact pretty disappointing. Felt awkward on my back and seemed to have zero leg strength. Bah.

17/12

Front Squat
practised technique with bar
40 x 3
60 x 3
80 x 3
90 x 3
100 x 1 ...Stopped it after 1 .

Chins
50 reps in 7sets (PB I think)
10, 8, 8, 7, 7, 5, 5.

Shrugs
100 x 10
90 x 10
80 x 10
60 x 20

Over and done with in 45mins. Along with overhead work, decided im going to blast my legs over Xmas too, desperately lacking in strength. I'll also be blasting my back, calves, abs, chest, arms... *sigh* long road ahead of me!

If you're BSing 130 then 100 for a first try in a while on FS is about right TBH. Usual difference is assumed to be around the 70-80% mark IIRC but as good as they are on the back in comparison, if you were in that much discomfort you were never on a winner.

Pish posh and nonsense.
A 100kg front squat first go is nothing like a failure.

Not doing them again for 6months on the other hand...

Re:Time for a kick up the backside... - 19 December 2009 16:30
First session back at home today. Felt more like cardio if I'm honest. Will have to get use to all this dumbbell malarky.

19/12

Single Arm DB Push Press
(each arm)
15kg x 5
25kg x 3
35kg x 1
40kg x 1
45kg x 1 (right only, left failed)
35kg x 3
35kg x 5

Seated DB Press
15kg x 10
20kg x 10
20kg x 10

DB Squats
25kg x 10
35kg x 10
40kg x 10

SLDL
20kg x 10
20kg x 10
20kg x 10

DB Curl
20kg x 10
20kg x 8
10kg x 20
10kg x 15
10kg x 12
10kg x 12

Lying Leg Raises
x12
x12
x12

Urggh. Not used to this high-rep stuff. DB Squats definately got the heart pumping, quite rewarding though, felt like a cross between squatting and deadlifting. First time in years Ive tried seated db press, I have no back support on my bench so made it quite awkward on the back. Took 70mins bang on, though spent most of the time changing over the DB's.

DB Push Press aim for next week is 50kg.
Squats > 40kg x 3x10, and 50kg x 10 by New Year.

More of this volume stuff tonight.

Warmed up with some pullovers and light db bench then...

20/12

30kg x 10
30kg x 10
30kg x 10
30kg x 10

DB Flyes
12.5kg x 10
12.5kg x 10
12.5kg x 10

Incline Pushups
bw x 20, 15, 15

Skulls
(using oly db handle as a bb)
25kg x 6
20kg x 10
20kg x 10

Kneeling Ab rolls
x 8
x 8

Yes it's light, yes it got me sweaty. Done under 50mins. All weights will go up next time, 'fret not.

Might be worth thinking about, while  you are limited to lighter loads, in doing the smaller muscles first (kinda pre-exhausting them) then moving on to the bigger one.... so do Tris before chest for example.

Pre-exhausting? Is that bodybuilder talk? I'm kind of aiming for more volume after neglecting it lately, so a couple weeks to put some meat on my chest would be no bad thing. I'm getting some more 10kg plate for Xmas so i'll be able to go upto 52.5kg dbs for bench

My upper back feels ridiculously sore still from doing shoulders, as are my pectorals!
