Red Man spencerslide Red Man What are the chances of starting a new thread??? The whole 'ghost post' thing, having to alter the numbers in the address bar and this ridiculous fascination of lol and rofl have started to annoy me. The original debate sides of this thread have now well gone and it seems to be here simply for a slanging match and childish games. I fear im nearly done here! on a serious note chaps i think you should start a Liverpool thread as 80% of posts seem to be about one team only. Tbf, we cant help being the majority in the thread but i can see your point. The problem isnt posts about Liverpool but what seems to be the envy that some other supporters have of us and as such fall to levels of child-like discussion. Without the childish behaviour this thread wouldnt be any where near the size it is. Nor would it be so much about Liverpool. I feel many other fans dont post much as its not really a football thread anymore, its just somewhere to trade banter. what is to envy, im a season ticket holder at OT, am almost getting bored of winning the league. so lets go back to the point i was making earlier......... benitez is living on winning the champions league and bare luck in signing torres and inheriting gerrard. i cant believe how fickle scousers are singing his name at anfailed week in week out. wtf was he doing selling robbie keane. wtf was he doing buying the likes of voronin and babel, there absolute junk. lets face it can you really see him winning anything other than the fizzy pop cup. you had your best season in a decade and still finished 4 points behind. why can you not see that benitez is a ****ing retard. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpqB7KAdejY

First of all note the 'envy that some other supporters have of us and as such fall to levels of child-like discussion.' Take that as you wish... Second, go as far back as you wish. It was a long time ago that i truly wanted Benitez here. Towards the end of last season was the end for me. Since then ive been waiting for failure so he can be shown to be weak link and removed from the chain. Quotes like 'am almost getting bored of winning the league' are utter ridiculous and simply it wont last so enjoy it while you can. I hate to bring up the past (unlike most LFC fans) but LFC ruled for many years and then it went t1ts up. Its a rotation system and your time will come to an end. One thing i will say is that you wont be replaced by us. Not for quite a while now do i imagine us to win the Premiership. I cant get much more honest about it....

Chelsea looked to have done what your saying but United have bounced back and won the league 3 times on the trot. Maybe the time will come when they do not win the league for 20 odd years, but I doubt it personally.
If you love something let it go,if it comes back to you it's yours,if it doesn't it never was.

Full credit to you Red Man for your objective honest appraisal. I was raised amidst the Liverpool heyday and well remember the Terry Waite T shirt when he was released about United still not having won the league... . If major investment doesn't materialise I think Liverpool are in serious trouble tbh. As for Man U I think we will continue to do well for some time yet, especially as IMO a certain Mr Mourinho is waiting in the wings for Sir Alex to step down

i dont think we'll be in serious trouble, i just dont think we'll do even a'well' as we have done in the last 5 yrs and be surpassed by teams like city and spurs... :-( which i suppose in itself would be a disaster

I highly doubt Mourinho will take over from Fergie - his tactics are about as far from the United philosophy as you'll get. Rumours for the last few years have suggested Blanc or Moyes would be in line for it next.

We hae done once to Everton already. The only difference this time is that we could drop a couple of places and then struggle like hell to regain them! Look at it from an outsiders point of view and its a nightmare! When Masc leaves and LFC do not perform well this season who will follow. Carra is not what he used to be and Gerrard will soon be short on years. I fully expect to be sat in the boozer in 10 years when someone says... 'Who was the best Premiership player to never win the Premier League'.....

Despite the bold public statements the yanks have fcuked up the club finanacially and if the revenue stream is drastically cut then what will happen next; sale of players to balance the books, trim the wage bill etc, bad times. In theory the same applied at united, and still does, but the 80m from the sale of Ronaldo, which has been barely touched has alleviated some of the pressure along with CL money last 2 seasons etc.

Rumours for the last few years have suggested Blanc or Moyes would be in line for it next. Don't think either of the above are in the frame mate and Mourinho's track record would be the biggest factor overall. He is also one of the few that would not be overawed by taking over from Sir Alex.

As already mentioned, they are relying on investors (pool) to push them fwd, failure to get 4th in the league, which, lets face it, looks highly posible with the way they have been performing, would make any investor either back off, or make their offer far less lucritive than it couldve been for example end f last season. Lets be honest, they have debt, big clubs have fallen before from glory, Leeds went from champs league to div 2, so never say never

evad yeah don't get me wrong SWP is a good player but goalscoring was not something that he was renowned for i'll be watching MOTD tonight to see if he is still fast (not seen him play for a bit) kompany was a signing that puzzled me a fair bit cracking player but essentially a centre back which will work if richards moves to the right but he also likes playing centre, so where does dunne fit in? to be fair henry has only 5 hours to sign doesnt he? SWP is garbage, watching him against brazil the other night made my eyes bleed. did anyone hear ian wirght wright wrights comment of the night??????????? are you ready for this!!!!!!!!! defoe is average, i cant get excited about the current England team at all, even full strength they are boring, i think its down to my deep rooted hatred of a few of the players in the side, who i cant suddenly switch my emotions off and start supporting.

Re:PREMIER LEAGUE THREAD 08/09

17 November 2009 17:01
this made me laugh the other day. its longwinded but it is funny just have a read through. its quotes from the one and only BIG RON ATKINSON. Mastery Of Language (a) The metaphor Co-commentating apprentices like Beglin and Waddle may think it’s sufficient to arm yourself with a single metaphor before commenting on an incident. Not Ron. Real legends come to the party with metaphors and similes aplenty, and do not hesitate to lump the whole lot into a single sentence if the situation demands. Confusion? We prefer to call it genius. “Beckenbauer has really gambled all his eggs.” “Tony Adams – he’s the rock that the team has grown from.” “He sliced the ball when he had it on a plate.” “Someone in the England team will have to grab the ball by the horns.” “They’ve picked their heads up off the ground and they now have a lot to carry on their shoulders.” “He’s treading on dangerous water there…” “Chelsea look like they’ve got a couple more gears left in the locker.” (b) Clarity Ron’s spent long enough wrestling with The Sun crossword to know that people don’t like to be kept guessing. While peppering his co-commentary with fascinating insights and useful facts, Ron’s precise language skills ensure that even the non-initiated can closely follow events on the pitch. “There’s a little triangle – five left-footed players.” “For me the book’s still open on Totti.” “You think he’d chance his hat there.” “Liverpool are outnumbered numerically in midfield.” “I would also think that the replay showed it to be worse than it actually was.” “He’s not only a good player, but he’s spiteful in the nicest sense of the word.” “The keeper was unsighted – he still didn’t see it.” “You half fancied that to go in as it was rising and dipping at the same time.” “That was Pele’s strength – holding people off with his arm.” Decisiveness It’s no picnic putting your neck on the line with bold predictions every week, you know. Look what happened to Rodney Marsh’s hair and Lawro’s tache, for example. Ron, in the best tradition of plucky punditry is never afraid to call it early. “I wouldn’t say Ginola is the best left winger in the Premiership, but there are none better.” “Well, either side could win it, or it could be a draw.” “City will want to win this one.” Awareness High profile purveyors of punditry have to continually look over their shoulders. There’s always a smartarse keen to twist their words for comic effect. With that in mind, Ron’s eventual demise was all the more surprising. Such an experienced campaigner has always known the value of choosing his words carefully. “Moreno thought that the full back was gonna come up behind and give him one really hard.” “There’s lots of balls dropping off people.” “Ever time Zidane comes inside, Roberto Carlos just goes bonking down the wing.” “He dribbles a lot and the opposition don’t like it – you can see it all over their faces.” “Zidane is not very happy, because he’s suffering from the wind.” “Stoichkov’s playing on the wing, in this situation he likes to come in and scalp the centre-half.” “I think Sir Alex might have been thinking about pulling Giggsy off… but that might be an incentive to stay on.” Raw Talent There aren’t enough lollipops and little eyebrows in the world to match the style on show in the gantry when Ron gives it the full gun. Class will out. Spotters badge, sir. “I never comment on referees and I’m not going to break the habit of a lifetime for that prat.” “A ten-foot keeper really should have stopped that.” “They’ve come out at half time and gone bang.” “The lad throws it further than I go on holiday.” “..and Schmeichel extends and grows even bigger than he is.” “I think that was a moment of cool panic there.”

The reason theres so much discussion about lpool is because more posters on here support lpool fans than any other team and also becasue we arent doing well, theirs more talk, eg should rafa get sacked, yes, no, why. Is lucas shi* - no, future potential - good.

None of the above good enough for a team which wants to win the EPL. thing is tho mate, with signings like Kjaer, and elia, with them being young etc, it is a slight 'gamble', but, UTD wouldnt have known ronaldo would turn out to be the best in the world when they paid 12m for him, arsenal dint know Vermaelen would turn out t start doin so well straight away.. sometimes u do 'unearth' a gem.. but i konw what u mean.. we try t sign too many 'up and coming players' and none have really showed the 'potential' that was first seen in them.. in fact, most 'up and coming' players have failed to materialse really.. nani, babel, lucas.. there's probably more but im tired and cant remember.. we need t be signing some top european players, 25-26 yr old, good international experience etc.. id like t see hamsik come in if we sell masch, wouldnt be too upset if diarra came either.. gets some good game time for real! would love to see RVDV tho.. how do the city fans feel about possibly shelling out £35m on Di maria from benfica????

To go slightly off topic...this is one thing I never understood while Wembley was being re built. Why couldn't the football team play there games at Twickenham? Makes me laugh we have rugby at OT and now Wembley, yet England's football team couldn't use Twickenham rugby ground as a temporary home. Anyone know why?

^^ as much as we arent the scum...haha, i agree with the abopve.. but mak- of course players would come.. hard times or not mate, we're still liverpool F.C and what we have done in the past and the lure of playing with players like torres and gerrard is a big big thing for lots of players... a tough spell will not deter players from wanting to sign for us at all!! if we started selling our top stars and were deeply deeply in the sh1t then yeh, but at the moment, nope!

Yawn. Really shows the mental ages of people where they do it for weeks on end. The Scum I can live with - its what i've joked at my Man Utd supporting friends for years on and off - its interchangable between the fans.

Papa Lazarou Yawn. Really shows the mental ages of people where they do it for weeks on end. Why do you even comment on it being annoying, it's obviously what it's there for? Maybe you could just, I don't know, ignore it and treat it with the contempt you believe it deserves? I'm not having a pop, I'm stating the obvious really. Frankly the whole slagging Liverpool thing is a bit boring full stop now. There are 19 better teams in the Premiership to talk about.

HA.. ice- as much as lucas is having his best season to date, he still does the things every game which make 80% of liverpool fans question his place in the side.. aaaannnnnnywayyy.. why's this thread so f*ckt regarding the last page being 'unviewable'?? doin my head in.. who would everyone like to see come in and go out of their club in jan then?? obviously spurs fans would like to see the back of pav.. anyone else? we need t get this thread back on track in terms of talkin about FOOTBALL and not one FOOTBALL side...
