baird- im full of respect for benitez, but.. like i said at the start of this season, imo he had to win somethin, if not he would be sacked! and that something imo had to be the league!
i dont get it tho.. we had a v strong side out last night, yeh we got some injuries during the game and torres and gerrard dint start, but still we had a strong side out, capable of beatin most teams in the league really, never mind birmingham! obviosly confidence is low, but he is obvioulsy not gettin the best out of them either.. plus it seems somethin is goin wrong in training or maybe theyre just playin too much football as everyone is fallin down injured, and we cant afford to lose players like benayoun, riera, gerrard, torres etc..its not lookin good.
financially i really dont think it is half as bad as what is bein made out in the press.. the papers say one thing, the owners say another! gilett said we were finanacially very good the other week, but were however raising new equity in the club t bring in new investment..now new investors arent goin t come in and pay off debt and our owners will kknow this of course, so this would suggest to me that the club isnt in that much bother.. according to christian purslow we're on the verge of new investment which again suggests that they have looked at out financial position and have deemed it to be alright, or else they simply would not invest!
anyway.. last night was shockin, we played well, but lacked anythin 'real' in the box.. we have no one in the box who can score from set pieces, and kuyt HAS TO GO!!!! his touch and passing ability is pretty shockin.. i'd play babel ahead of him i really would.. at least he has a go at players.. kuyt just runs around in circles t get his 'metres covered' stats up!!!
anyway, this thread has been taken up by so much liverpool talk, and we keep covering the same ground.. shall we move on?? plus.. its upsetting me :-( haha..
Babel is inconsistent full stop, kuyt is pretty consistent and i wouldnt say his passing and touch is 'shockin' time to cool down he puts in the work and does well in most games and as i said is pretty consistent unlike babel. Although it rings true that unless babel plays regularly he wont be much use, i said this in the summer and you disagreed. Yeah he scored a belter against lyon and what else? He has had a few chances as hes started a few games and under-performed too often. I like him and want him to be played all the time as i feel he has potential to be a very good player for us, but his time at lpool is just dragging on and he is bound to leave.
Anyway one question - who is more consistent kuyt or babel?
ice- of course kuyt is 'more consistent', he starts wk in wk out, never dropped from our first team or our cup side!! babel hasnt had a look in this yr.. yeh the chances he has been given he hasnt done anythin, but he dint even get on against fulham FFS or arsenal in the cup.. he aint great, i can admit that, but he has far more footballing ability than kuyt.. if u watch kuyt closely, look at how much posession he gives away from wayward clos range passing and a poor first touch.. he has done a 'good' job, and to be fair t him he got what 12 goals last yr and about 10 assists, comin from right wing thats probs the best return of all the wingers in the league last season (bar ronaldo), but i would much prefer to see a real winger down the right..id honestly love to see us bring another right back in, a solid right back defensive player and give johnson a bash there.. he's by far one of our top 3 players goin forward, was fantastic lastr night.. i agree with a lot of what has been said opver the last few pages.. i guess i was slightly blinkered at the start of the season as i dint see our squad as any weaker than last season.. i honestly thought lucas would be alright til aqua was fit, dint think we would be hit with as many in juries as we have been, and obviously dint believe for one second we would become so inept at the back!! but last season our 'average' quality players played very well, not far beyoind their capabilities, but excelled and the team worked brilliantly together, this yr... those same players arent livin up to last season! last season our squad was strong enough to take us second with fairly long term injuries to both torres and gerrard.. yet this yr the squad is stronger in certain parts and has been slightly weaker in others.. yet due to severe defensive lapses, we have been poor! so to say our squad is all of a sudden far too weak to compete wouldnt really be right,when last season it was strong enough.. as to be honest, the only player we really lost was alonso.. big loss yes, but the biggest mistake was not havin true quality to cover him straight away.. not sure anyone could have predicted that every one else would play so poorly and we would be hit with sh1t loads of injuries.. but, no excuses, i cant sit here and blame it on injuries, but to suddenyl say our squad isnt strong enough at all, when last yr it worked wouldnt be 'quite' right.. we do need strengthening, but rafa's obviously looked at last yr, seen our squad was strong enough, the system worked, other players scored plenty of goals as well as gerrard and torres and believed that this yr would be the same! but in that time, somethin has gone wrong... EVERYONE HAS STARTED PLAYIN ****E!! :-(
