LOLerpool buying Cattermole would never happen, as it would mean Rafa paying attention to a players form rather than his name. Does anybody know, did Alonso WANT to leave last summer? I know rumours said Masch did, maybe they sold the wrong one of the two!?

its well documented that alonso wanted t leave last yr but stayed for one final season.. all the players knew and rafa knew too.. what p1sses me off is masch was all like, ' i owe rafa and liverpool everythin, for 'resurecting' my career...' then one season into his contract he tries t engineer a move to spain.. i knew masch would leave next summer anyway, and i think benitez knew this too so i would be surprised if he doesnt already have someone lined up to replace him..

Given our defensive problems at the moment losing macherano is a serious problem. I think lucas may be able to step into that role in the future though

alonso wanted to leave because rafa was trying to sign people to replace him and failed. rafas man management skills are shocking. he's a chequebook manager and a **** one at that considering the money he's spent. we tracked torres for two years before liverpool got involved he only moved cos of the spanish contingency there, bet he regrets that now seeing as though they look like winning f-ck all again.

Oh he is a bad man manager as crouch left as he didnt want to sit on the bench.....similar to tevez anyone? could wenger manage ade? etc etc you will have to eat that "lol" with regards to lucas one of these days mak (i hope anyway lol)!

I also concur that Lucas is a useless sack of horse manure with no current ability or potential that I can see. I really don't know why hes one of the first names on the team sheet. There must be better people in the reserves?

john_cappa What is wrong with his man management? most of the players that have left under benitez on good terms claim that he is detatched from the players and is more bothered about his position politically with the board than his working relationship with the players. just think what state the club would be in considering the money he spent if he didnt poach torres and inherit gerrard, so lucky the fat bastard. hell be following mascherano out the door sooner than expected imo

POACHED TORRES?? sour grapes anyone? so because u tracked him for 2 yrs that means u have what...' first dibs??'.. grow up mate!! football is business... it got t the point where we were financially able to buy someone of his class and we did so.. as for man management, he isnt bad at all.. so what if he doesnt have a 'personal relationship' with the players.. he's a manager. he isnt there to be their best mate, he is there to try and get the best out of them on the pitch, which unfortunately isnt happening at the moment.. u could argue fergie is a sh1te man manager then.. has had numerous well documented bust ups with players... IIRC rafa hasnt had any! yeh he p1ssed alonso off but no bad words have been said between the 2..

Rafa may have inherited Gerrard, but imo, he moulded Gerrard into the player he is today. Gerrard was a solid central midfielder when Houlier was at Liverpool, his game has improved so much under Rafa, people forget this. Also, I seem to remember Rafa tracking Torres along with David Villa when he was managing at Valencia, as Liverpool ended up getting linked with both of them when he arrived.

Well imo, Gerrard wasn't world class before Rafa was at Liverpool, he now is. Whether or not he would have gone his own route to being world class and found his way there without Benitez, I don't know. Rafa should take some of the credit for nurchering him along the way, if this was wegner, everyone would be saying so.

The original debate sides of this thread have now well gone and it seems to be here simply for a slanging match and childish games. I fear im nearly done here!

Rafa should take some of the credit for nurchering him along the way, if this was wegner, everyone would be saying so. I still believe Gerrard would be the same player he is now with or without Benitez. Some might make a case that had he been coached by a different manager he would be a even better player. Difference with Wenger is he just seems to be able to make any player in Arsenal adapt to there way of play. But it's more than likely a case of the public thinking the player is not all that good and Wenger seeing something different and helping bring that out of the player.

Yeah, he could have still turned out to be the Steven Gerrard as we know him, like I said above. But still when Rafa came to Liverpool, he was a box to box midfielder with a much more defensive mentality. Benitez's tactics took all defensive pressure off his shoulders and allowed him to attack at will by playing him in advanced roles, whether that is attacking midfield, or as a second striker. I didn't see Houlier doing that before.

Surely Gerrard would of became a better player by being played in the one position rather than being asked to play in a number of different positions. The title of this thread should be called the Liverpool thread, did i spell Liverpool correctly

Tbf, we cant help being the majority in the thread but i can see your point. The problem isnt posts about Liverpool but what seems to be the envy that some other supporters have of us and as such fall to levels of child-like discussion. Without the childish behaviour this thread wouldnt be any where near the size it is. Nor would it be so much about Liverpool. I feel many other fans dont post much as its not really a football thread anymore, its just somewhere to trade banter.
