makaveli- u say players are picked for england based on their club form? if that was in deed 100% the case, owen would be in.. he has been scorin every wk pretty much in an awful toon team.. rooeny started v poorly!! so rooney wasnt picked on form, and owen has been dropped whilst in form!! best english striker at the moment- jermaine defoe!! he's been givent he chance he deserves at protsmouth and hes scorin for fun now!! thats a;ll he's needed but wasnt given the chance at spurs.. rooney is a great talent- but too mnay things play a factor in his performances. he's ver much like ronaldo- if he's in a bad mood, get spulled up for a few things, dummy comes out and rooney the useless sh*t comes out!! owen should be playin..

makaveli1971 1996 beef_pumper Icemansoldier Yeah i have to say attacking wise he does get up the field more than you's think, hes been making alot of darting runs recently :), however hes shooting is shocking if im being honest. Who are you on about, Mascherano? LOL!! I was being serious lol I have recently noticed that he is suprisingly quick, infact very quick and every now and then goes on these rampaging runs into the oponents half, and knowone seems to stop him! His shooting hasn't been the best, but he did score that one cracker, however back in the days, he did have a good reputation for having a half decent shot at River Plate and Corinthians so lets wait and see.

fletcher still captained his country at the age of 21. not bad for a second string midfielder. i also love the fact he gets the important ones against arsenal lol well he did once

makaveli1971 1996 Integra makaveli1971 1996 Integra makaveli1971 1996 With Hargreaves and Carrick fit i would think not,Hargreaves and Carrick offer more than just a holding midfielder. Sorry but that just raised a LOL. When your in the first eleven for the best team in europe you have to be a pretty good player dont you think? Not really. Phil Neville was a 1st team regular around the 99 era, he wasnt exactly Mr Football. Neither of the above are as good as Mascherano. The fact that Gareth Barry is ahead of both in the england setup and LOLerpool rejected the chance to sign Barry - suggests that Mascherano is better. Neville was not a first team regular,he made 28 apps in the league that season with most coming from the bench. So because Barry has had a few good england performances that suggest mascherrano is better than hargreaves and carrick? Its like us now saying crouch and defoe are better than owen, as the england pecking order suggests. Hargreaves when fully fit is in the team before Barry everytime. Also Liverpool wanted Barry but couldnt afford the extra money that villa were suggesting. A couple of points: 1. 28 appearances in a season is evidence of being in the first team on a regular basis. 2. Your first statement: "So because Barry has had a few good england performances ..." is followed further down the thread by "but as he (Hargreaves) was the best player at englands last major tournament i think that suggests when fully fit he will be in the starting 11". Slightly hypocritical at best, alarmingly biased at worst. Debating with a Manchester United fan is always a difficult task. Trying to debate with a biased Manchester United fan is nigh on impossible.

Its true though,Barry has had a few good England performances and thats why hes still in the team as there is not alot of competetion for the defensive midfield position in the England side at the moment. I honestly do think a fully fit Hargreaves is better than Barry and i think it will be proved if Hargreaves gets back to full fitness,Barry is a good average player thats why he has played for villa for most of his career, also hes probly playing the best football of his career right now.

but hargreaves only got picked because he had 'a few' good games at the euro's.. he had like 2 good games and everyone was like, o he was our best player..!! barry has done the same thing, had a few very good games, however has scored goals too for england.. plu he's a lefty so is more versatile in the midfield!

integra with the kill!!haha.. thats a good point tho.. doesnt matter where they play.. many v good players play for 'decent' sides... some fo them like bein the 'big fish' in the little pond. and t be fair to barry, he's only really come into his own in the last 2 seasons or so..and as integra has stated, we (pool) could have bought him but he dint move because of our issues with the price tag, not becasue of his quality!he is a good player and i thiink will keep hargreaves out of the side, if for anythin, becasue he offers more goals!!

Barry is a better all round player than Hargreaves, he's got a better range of passing, is more comfortable on the ball and can chip in with assists/goals. Hargreaves lacks ability when he has the ball, he tries to compensate this by running around like a headless chicken.

Was top scorer in the prem for a number of seasons, and has scored the most goals in the prem since it started. Shearer won a prem league and came 2nd in a prem league and was runner up twice in domestic cups, won pfa player of the year.....need i go on And of course he wasnt an average striker.A world class 1 imo Now for Barry mmmmm.......

It is a straightforward comparison. "Barry is a good average player thats why he has played for villa for most of his career" means that any player who does not play for Arsenal/MUFC/Chelsea/Lolerpool must be an average player. Your arguments are bordering on the insane. Barry has been the most consistent English midfielder behind Gerrard and Lampard for the last 2 seasons. Anyone who watches the EPL on a regular basis will agree with this. He is not flavour of the month, he is the best midfielder we have after Gerrard and Lampard as proved by his performances over the last two seasons. Hargreaves had one or two good games for england under Sven and all of a sudden he is world class. What is interesting is that prior to that tournament the majority of fans and press were calling him a donkey and questioning Sven's wisdom in selecting him as his performances were by and large, pants. Football fans are a fickle bunch. Man United fans even more so. I look forward to you moving the goalposts again.
