LOL!

A lot of money spent on potential talent but little in the way of real talent which could push LOLerpool towards major honours.

20m for Downing is a LOL of spectacular mind-boggling proportions

What's not exciting? The owners are a breath of fresh air and we are under the right guidance with Kenny, Clarke and Keen along with the youth coaches who helped build Barcelona's current empire on board. I wouldn't expect a City fan to get excited about Liverpool and I didn't say we would win anything. But I'm a hell of a lot more excited now than I was 12 months ago.

Scholes was a bit part player last season so there is no reason to place too much importance on a replacement.

Though even with Scholes they were always light in creativity across the midfield.
I can not remember the last time United played successfully with a genuine creative influence in the middle of the park, instead packing the middle with industrious workers feeding the glamorous widemen/forwards.

Sneijder is worth every penny if Henderson is worth £16m tbf.

Hender is only 21 though so assuming doesnt flop massively pool should be able to either sell him for same money or a massive profit in 5 years time (or else keep him if he is that good).

If united bought sneijder chances are he would only want to stay in england/united for 3/4 years or so at which point his value due to age will have crashed. Not really fergies style these days. Its been a while since fergie splashed big cash at a player in their peak like that. Berb was last and he will prob leave for 10 million or so now. Not sure if money counters will allow that to happen a second time.

There are a lot of 21 year olds playing football, doesn't mean they are worth £16m.  I'm not sure Henderson has done anywhere near enough to justify that sort of price tag.

That said, Liverpool have Damien Comolli up there now, so it's no wonder they are paying over the odds for players that are being hyped by the press, it's what he does.

Henderson is a decent player. Time will tell. I dont expect him to feature an awful lot this season to be honest.

I'm neither here nor there with Henderson. I'm not going to big him up now he is at Liverpool because I never thought the need to do so whilst he was at Sunderland. We will just have to wait and see.

One thing is for sure we have a load of central midfielders now in the first team squad; Lucas, Gerrard, Adam, Meireles, Aquilani, Henderson, Spearing, Shelvey, Poulsen, Coady

Some will prob have to leave but I can see Henderson being utilised on the right of a flat midfield if he is to get a game.

What's not exciting?

If spunking 100+ million on mediocre Englishmen gets your juices flowing then that is fair play to you.

Where did you get 100+ from. More like 70mil. Also Man City aren't ones to talk, you have your fair share of over overpriced English players. Probably to a similar figure as us with whoppers like Lescott on board.
And to be honest, no Henderson doesn't get me that excited. But Carroll and Downing do. Also Adam is an exciting signing however he is not English.

I agree with Wonga on this one, 20m on downing is a little odd. But I think kenny likes a good crosser with a good header of the ball. Think wilcox/ripley and the SAS lol. Time will tell I guess

I think Downing is a really good signing, we've had no propper wide players for years so I guess we will just have to wait and see.

He's a shade above Albert Riera is what he is. Charles N'Zogbia has been far better of late and would've cost you half as much.

Difference is that we have achieved our aim - i.e. ECL qualification - and can easily afford to write off our failures too.
Whereas LOLerpool simply can not afford to spend vast sums in the hope that they may one day develop into top drawer players. Another season or two outside the top 4 would be an absolute disaster.
You can not honestly say that you are happy with these sums being spent on the likes of Carroll and Downing when rival clubs are snapping up more talented players for less or similar amounts of money.

AK I agree N'Zogbia is a great player but with past clashes with Carroll I think Downing was the sensible choice.

Could United afford him if he doesnt take a pay hike? I would imagine Wazza would spit his dummy out of the pram if he didnt.

Downing will probably give you a better shape, and was a much better signing for Liverpool than he would have been for Arsenal, Spurs, or anyone else at the top end of the table.  The price tag is some what inflated though, he simply isn't good enough to demand that sort of transfer fee IMO.

Downing to Liverpool is good for both sides. He'll improve the Liverpool team, as a Villa fan Im delighted with the £20m, if we sign N'Zogbia for half that it will be even better business as I feel N'Zogbia is the better individual but Downing is a better team player.

Not sure United are interested in Schneidar, I dunno where he'd fit in. If United play 2 up front in Hernandez and Rooney, that leaves no room for an AM. It suggests Young will be in his best position which is LM. If they play 1 up front and a player in behind, they can play Young or Rooney here. As an outsider looking in I feel united would be better off with a CM player, Modric or Parker would be good buys IMO.

Left wingers are few and far between, and with the big lump up front they wouldve wanted a good one. 20mil is steep, but if you want your man you have to pay for him.

Isnt there a rule coming in about the number of English players in a team? If so then English players values are bound to rise.

ive posted in the other one already aswell.. It was nice.. a warm place.. not like the ice cold hatred we get in here!! :-( ha.

who am i kiddin, this had t get bumped!!

so whats the craic? downing?? hhmmm... a lot of cash, but we needed a proper lefty, hes as 'lefty' as they come, english, seems to be hitting his best form so what ever the seeling club value him at is what has to be paid! i reckon he'll be a good buy tho, as will adam i reckon, depending on which centre midfielders we sell this summer!

Pool team is looking strong every where but at the back.

If we dont get a left back or a centre back (we really need both ) then we will struggle again.

If we dont get a left back or a centre back (we really need both ) then we will struggle again.

While LOLerpool are strengthening, some of the teams who finished above them last year have also been strengthening (which were already stronger than LOlerpools) to a more impressive degree.

Top 4 will be very difficult for LOLerpool. Even more so if Fabregas is fit and focused.
