Oats 14 January 2012 13:36 (permalink)
Just a very quick question about adding oats to a diet. My friend says he tries to eat as much oats during the day as possible to bulk up. Is this a good idea? just pretty much eat oats inbetween meals as a snack and even add it to meals that lack in carbs also?
Just here to get advice from the bigger boys.....You never know, maybe one day I'll be one of the bigger boys!!

It all depends on how many carbs your individual diet needs. It might work for your mate but could be too much/little for you.

My advice wouldbe to post your stats up and a normal days diet and let us have a look at if you need them or not.

As long as you factor them into your overall carb allowance for the day, brilliant source of low GI carbohydrate. Lots of fibre and can be used in loads of recipes. Whack them in your blender to make shakes, add honey, peanut butter and protein to make flapjack bars or just roll into balls for a handy snack.

If I where to eat as much oats as I can in a day while bulking I would get fat, brb intake would be >6000kcal a day....

Oats are a good healthy way of adding an additional carb source. If ground they can also easily be added to shakes.

Thanks guys, some helpful comments. With my everyday workload I think they would help at breaks at work to ensure I get my carbs, usually carbs are my biggest downfall, not enough of them at all
