Sounds to me as though they are both telling a hazy version of what happened. The black guy is eating humble pie after getting beaten up and the bearded vet is clearly not all there in the head.

When it comes down to it two ego's clashed and they ended up fighting, which could have been avoided if one had been able to walk away.

Most of us have probably been in a situation were we let our ego get the better of us. Whether you win or lose, in the majority of cases it is a total waste of time.

I dunno. Neither of their versions seems close.
Tom's obviously because he's a bit of a fantasist.
But Michael says that Tom mentioned shoe shine first, whilst he was minding his own business.
From the original clip we can clearly hear Tom mention it first, but then when Michael appears confused he starts saying "you said...you said".
To which Michael says "You hear what I said, I said why does have brother have to shine your shoes?".
EBM then points back down the bus and says "You offered!".

Obviously a misunderstanding, but clearly Michael did mention it first, even if sarcastically.
Which he denies in the interview!

All we see is Tom bringing up the shoe shining. What happened before is up to our own imaginations! To me it seemed Mike (I'm on first name terms with both now) seemed pretty shocked at the shoe shine being brought up, but then again maybe you're right and it was somehow mentioned before the video started. Who knows

Based on the rest of his wild ramblings it's clear to me that Tom has the potential to out-of-the-blue ask a black man for a shoe shine lol. But the only 100% definite racism in that video comes from bystanders, not either of the blokes involved
