Omega 3 and Omega 6 07 February 2012 16:35 (permalink)
Hi guys

I am looking at buying some Omega 3 and 6 fish oils

Can anyone advise on the best ones, and does each tablet contain both Omegas, or will I have to buy them both seperately?

Have had a browse and cant find much on this so thought I would post on here

Many thanks

If I am right omega 6 is not strictly an EFA. I think omega 6 is found in meat and dairy products, eggs etc. Omega 3 is an EFA so I think that one is a lot more important.

You can buy omega 3,6,9 tablets that combine them all in one off bulk suppliers like bulk powders. I just stick to omega 3 tabs myself.

Though I am obviously biased, I agree completely with that - I feel like crap when I don't use it for a while, so I do my best not to these days!

Most people have an abundance of O6 through their diet (mentioned above), and little O3. I would go for MyProtein's omega 3 liquid, £7.99 for 500ml with high EPA/DHA - take 3x 5ml servings a day.

Quality of said omega 6 is the issue. Remove damaged oils from your diet, and that adundance isn't as big as you'd think

True, this should be reworded to 'those with a balanced diet...'

In fairness those on good BB style diets don't have as much an issue with damaged fats, but in general only those nailing PB are getting significant amounts of o6 in their diet.

                              Comes down to:

                              1. Oils used - is there a good range of oils in there to cater for 3:6:9:sats ratio, and deliver wide range of phytonutrients
                              2. Oil manufacture - are they all cold pressed, organic, stored properly before blending, etc
                              3. Mixing - is this done in absence of heat, light & oxygen
                              4. Bottling - are the bottles dark glass, nitrogen flushed, and boxed
                              5. Storage - is it kept refrigerated/frozen for the bulk of its life
The more times they say 'yes' to the above, the better the oil will be.

So the concensus is; get your diet right instead of trying to add yet another supplement to correct a dodgy diet.

I'd say the consensus is get some udos lol, but obviously getting in more omega 3 from diet would be ideal.
