Re: RE: On The Road To Scotlands Strongest Man 2008! - 26 March 2011 17:11
Good session today, took my box squat stance wider to hit the hamstrings more and hopefully translate over to my deadlift better. On a side note, I'm now weighing 125kg... wasting away haha!
26/3/11
14" Box squat w/ green bands- 60/2, 110/2, 150/2/2/2/2/2/2/2/2/2/2
15" Rack Pull w/ doubled mini bands- 100/2, 150/2/2, 190/2/2/2/2/2/2/2/2/2/2
Beltless SSB GMs- 60/10, 100/10, 140/10, 160/10
Hypers- BW+7k medicine ball/12/12/12
Incline Crunch- BW/12/12/12
Finished with some side bends.

Re: RE: On The Road To Scotlands Strongest Man 2008! - 29 March 2011 18:45
Nice session today, I can see all the added tricep stuff really helping my push press.
29/3/11
Push Press- 60/6/6, 100/3, 120/2, 140/1, 155/1 PB, 162.5/f/f Was shocked how easy the 155k went up cause the 145 was a bit slow. Really should of had the 162.5, but kept sending it forward.
3 Board Bench- 60/5, 100/5, 130/5, 145/5 PB
Seated BB Press- 50/5, 70/5, 90/5, 100/4
Tate Press- 15/12, 18/12, 20/12, 22/12, 24/12, 26/12, 28/12, 30/6
Pushdowns- 4sets of 15reps
Pulldowns- 80/12, 90/12, 100/12/12/12
Finished with high rep curls, tri exts and shrugs.

Re: RE: On The Road To Scotlands Strongest Man 2008! - 30 March 2011 22:09
Today was the first in my new plan to improve my deadlift. Going to focus a good bit of energy into it as it comes up more than squat in comps, but plan to get the squat coming along nicely too.
30/3/11
15" Block Pull- 60/5, 100/5, 140/5, 180/3, 220/2, 260/1, 300/1, 330/1, 345/f Really annoyed at these cause I felt that something big was in the bag today.
13" Box Squat w/ 90k bands at top- 80/3, 120/3, 150/3, 170/3, 190/1/3 Using a wide stance to hit the hamstrings a lot and provide carry over to deadlift.
SLDL- 120/5, 160/5, 200/5, 230/5/5
Leg Press- 140/10, 180/10, 220/10, 300/10
Finished with abs.

Re: RE: On The Road To Scotlands Strongest Man 2008! - 01 April 2011 19:02
Nice one today, not sure why but really enjoying training atm. Maybe it's cause it gives me a break from typing this thesis!
1/4/11
Push Press w/ med bands- 40/2/2, 60/2, 85/2/2/2/2/2/2/2/2/2/2
Floor Press- 60/5, 80/5, 100/5, 120/5, 132.5/3/2 Got told after these that I'm not supposed to be doing this anymore, Friday is more volume now. When I asked why Duncan's response was "things change", great insight there!
Big Z Dumbbell Press- 22/10, 26/10, 30/8/5 So much harder than I expected!
Tate Press- 15/10, 20/10, 26/10/10/10
Pushdowns- 5sets of 15, upping weight each set
Chest Supported Row- 70/10, 80/10, 90/10, 100/10, 110/10, 120/10
Finished with face pulls and arm work.

Re: RE: On The Road To Scotlands Strongest Man 2008! - 02 April 2011 17:03
Really tough session today, my low back glutes and hamstrings have been killing me since Wednesday's session. So much so my whole left leg was cramping during push press with bands yesterday. Today wasn't much fun, but got the work in.
2/4/11
14" Box Squat w/ green bands- 60/2, 100/2, 140/2, 160/2/2/2/2/2/2/2/2/2/2
13" Rack Pulls w/ doubled mini bands- 100/5, 140/5, 180/5/5/5/5/5
Sumo SLDL- 100/8, 140/8, 180/8, 225/4
Reverse Hypers- 60/10, 100/10/10/10/10

Re: RE: On The Road To Scotlands Strongest Man 2008! - 05 April 2011 17:02
Bit off form today, not sure what was up with me, didn't sleep great last night so maybe that was a factor. No excuses though!
5/4/11
BTN Jerk- 60/5, 100/3, 120/2, 140/1, 160/1, 177.5/f, 170/f The lockout on the 160 was a bit slow, so I really should of just go to 167.5k, but ego and wanting a new PB got the better of me.
4 Board Bench- 60/5, 100/5, 130/5, 150/5, 160/5
Seated Axle Press- 50/8, 70/8, 80/8, 90/5, 70/12
Tate Press- 15/10, 18/10, 20/10, 22/10, 24/10, 26/10, 28/9
Pushdowns- 3sets of 15reps upping weight each time
Pulldowns- 70/12, 80/12, 90/12, 100/12/12
Face Pulls- 21/12, 28/12, 35/12/12
Finished with high rep bicep and tricep rehab work.

Re: RE: On The Road To Scotlands Strongest Man 2008! - 12 April 2011 18:23
Pish poor session today, need to stop pressing on events day cause it is ruining my Tuesday pressing. Think I have a slight injury to both biceps, cause after trying to load our 187k stone they both have a nice bruise, could actually see the bruise forming between attempts haha! Lot's of rehab cause the tendonitis is seemingly back too.
12/4/11
Axle Press- 60/5, 100/5, 120/3, 130/1, 140/2, 150/f, 157.5/f Not sure what happened with the 150k, but the speed was there. For some reason I just can't lock my top weights atm. Took the gamble cause I knew the pop would be there, but I'm not locking at the top sets. Going to work a lot from the rack, focus on getting the pop better, dipping under and driving with the tris. Lots of tricep work too.
Reverse Band Bench w/ monster minis- 60/5, 100/5, 130/5, 150/2/3
Seated Axle- 50/5, 70/5, 90/5, 105/2 drop to 95/1 drop to 75/5, drop to 60/8
Tate Press- 15/12, 18/12, 20/12, 22/12, 24/12, 26/12, 28/10, 30/10
Cable Extensions- 3sets of 15, 1set of 12 and a final set of 10. Upping weight each set
Finished with bicep rehab.

Re: RE: On The Road To Scotlands Strongest Man 2008! - 26 April 2011 22:56
Been slacking with updates recently due to being mega busy with my thesis, but back to normal now.
Finally hit a good pressing session again, the volume is staying!
26/4/11
Jerk from Rack- 60/8/3, 100/3, 120/3, 130/3, 140/3, 147.5/3 PB Was good to hit some volume again, found my groove so just going to stick at this, add some push press in here and there and get the jerk massive ready for UK's
2 Board CG Bench- 60/5, 100/5, 120/5, 130/5, 140/3 3 rep and 5 rep PBs :D
Standing Axle Strict- 60/5, 75/5, 85/5, 95/4
Incline Tate Press- 18/10, 20/10, 22/10, 26/10/9
BB Row- 60/10, 80/10, 120/10, 140/10, 150/8

What a session tonight, brutal but one of the most enjoyable I've had for a while! Man I live for this ****!!
27/4/11
13" Block Pull- 60/5, 100/5, 140/5, 180/3, 220/2, 260/1, 290/1, 310/1 PB, 315/f
Sumo Deadlift- 100/5, 140/5, 180/5, 220/5, 250/5 PB
SSB GMs- 60/15, 80/15, 100/15, 120/15, belt on 140/10
Finished with I think 5sets of reverse hypers for 10s supersetted with standing cable crunches; once the hypers were finished I supersetted the crunches with heavy db side bends for 12s.

Re: RE: On The Road To Scotlands Strongest Man 2008! - 30 April 2011 10:15
The bicep tricep stuff I finish with was rehab, but has turned to prehab now. I suffered from very bad tennis elbow in both arms and full range curls with low weight for high reps helped a lot.
So, at the end of each pressing session I'll do roughly the following:
-> 3 20rep sets of dumbbell curls with 8 or 10kg dumbells (both arms together, not alternating)
-> between the above I do sets 15repsof cross body hammer curls with maybe a 14 or 16k dumbell
-> 20kg preweighted mini-barbell for 1 or 2 sets of 50 rep overhead extensions
-> finish with 1 or 2 sets of 50reps of shrugs holding a 25k plate in each hand.

It depends what gym I'm at; I train at both the uni gym and also a more hardcore gym, but in general training is usually 2hrs and pretty fast paced.

The thesis was on Antisolvent Precipitation of Valine in a Confined Impinging Jet Mixer; basically investigating how changing initial mixing conditions (flow rates of streams to the mixer, solution concentration etc) affect our recovery of valine through crystallisation.

I'm sure you'll catch some of it one of the days, MT interview!

Very poor session today, really off form for some reason so just focussed on assistance work and tried to develop a plan to break this barrier.

Re: RE: On The Road To Scotlands Strongest Man 2008! - 26 May 2011 21:49
haven't documented my training the past few days, but here's what's been happening. Since I'm off to Canada next week it's just a bit of fun really, but still shooting for big weights.
Monday 23/5/11
Squat- 60/5/5, 100/5, 140/5, belt on 190/3, wraps on 230/3, 250/1
Front Squat- 50/10, 60/10, 70/10, 80/10
Leg Extension- 3sets of 20reps at 40k for knee rehab
Tuesday 24/5/11
Axle Press- 66/3/3, 106/3, 126/2, 136/1, 146/f Using the new fixed axle, I was mega pissed off at miss that weight so just packed my stuff up and left. In hindsight I haven't used a fixed axle before, was a few days post comp etc so I shouldn't beat myself up about it.
Thursday 26/5/11
Deadlift- 60/5, 100/5, 140/5, 180/3, suit on 220/3, 270/1, 295/1/1, suit off 260/8/5 (t&g) Trying out the suit I used at BP from the florr and it gives nothing... likely cause it's a Metal Viking Squatter V-Type. I wanted 10 with the 260k, but I had no air at all left in me.
Squat- 60/8, 100/5, 140/20 (rehband belt), 160/20 (lever belt)
Abs to finish.

Log Press- 58/5/5, 103/4/1, 123/1, 138/1, 153/f, 133/1 Looking at this in hindsight no wonder I missed the 153k, hardly any work before the top set. 133k was supposed to be for 5 but I as sweating so much it slipped right off.

Training has been quite sparce recently as I've been competing a lot. Was hoping to get back into the swing of UKs prep this week, but got another show this Sunday now.
