On a budget, discovered tesco value oats, now where can I buy cheap seeds and nuts?? 06 February 2012 14:43 (permalink)
I have started eating a lot of oats, I could never stomach prorridge but one day I dropped them into a blender, some water and soon realised I could eat this very regulary. I also find I do not get the bloated feeling I would get from eating bread and pasta. Is it healthy to use oats as your main form of carbs? I am thinking of now just eating meals simple comprising of meat and veg, finished of with an oat shake?

Can anyone reccomend anywhere I can get nuts and seeds cheap and in bulk. Also can anyone reccomend the best seeds and nuts to buy, keeping fat at a minimum?

thanks

    Hi
I buy nuts in asda- they are not massively cheap but you could be looking at around £11.30 per kilo on mixed nuts. Brazil nuts are a bit cheaper (£10.40kg) and this is cheaper than Tesco I think at the moment.
I also think it is worth looking at Julian Graves- in the summer they had a brilliant deal on brazil nuts which were half price and per kg they were a bargain.

For seeds, asda have them for 65p per 100g.  I use the omega sprinkle mix from holland and barrett and they have a sale on at the minute where if you buy certain things, you can add the same item for 1p, so you could buy 500g of seeds for £2.20 in total- and that is 44p per 100g- they do a loyalty card too and they sent me a voucher for £3 off the other day. I think their nuts are expensive though.
If you want almonds, you might get big packs in oriental supermarkets or big tescos because I think they are used in indian food readily.

I just had a look on www.Mysupermarket.com and for almonds they are

      Asda: 76p per 100g
      sainsburys: 99p per 100g
tesco: 90p per 100g on normal packs or almonds or big packs (400g) are 62p per 100g
