i have a large tank, with an Oscar

The wench has two of them , one is absolutly huge and the other is abit smaller and a few other fish

hehehe!  so you would probably be as surprised as i was to find mine getting a right kicking from a 3" fish!  i'm slowly filtering out the female convicts, which should reduce a lot of their aggression and give the O a bit of peace...

we have a convict in there aswell , a plec thats about 18 inches long who just sits on other fish. We did have some tetras but you can guess what happended to them

i went out and got another spare tank on saturday, prepped it, filled it (half with existing tank water, half fresh), checked the water chemistry, ensured there was a good bacterial colony by stripping out an existing filter from the big tank... plopped the big oscar into it, and he died on sunday.  :(

on the flip side, it looks like the crab is going to inherit this new tank, making the crab tank a spare 'hospital' tank, which means i can ditch the smallest of the tanks, which presently has 2 adult female convicts and around 60 babies (yes, i went baby catching on sunday... took fookin hours catching the little buggers!)

Squats last night... barbell was still loaded from previous session, so used that for a couple of warm up sets, then added 20kg for 3 sets of 8.

Followed up with some db shoulder presses, tri kickbacks and bo rows.  Kept the weight down as my left elbow is being a bitch when i'm rotating my forearm.  Might go see the doc about it if still giving me jip in a weeks time.

i'm quite surprised by how much weaker i am after the lay off.  Squats again last night

                42.5kg /10/10 warm up
                67.5kg /8/8  62.5kg /8

knew i wasnt going to get the 3rd set without losing form so dropped the weight, but still found it a struggle to press out the last couple of reps.  Had to sit down for 10 minutes afterwards as i just felt so fatigued.

i dont know, but i think it my be psychological.  I was squatting 90 previously.  But, i believe that having the cage before, i was able to ramp up the weights more confidently without the worry of it all going t*ts up, but now i'm using stands it has the opposite effect.

                or i'm just weak! :D

but its ok, it'll come back and i'll be squatting 100+

picking up a bench this evening, ebay bargain at £10.14, so i'll be able to throw some bench presses etc into the mix, although i'm quite happy just squatting.  Maybe i'll base 2 workouts per week around squats, and one in the middle on bench work.

I'll be full of awesomeness by the time i hit 40 anyway.

over the years, i've come to accept the fact that i will never be 'massive'.  To be fair, i'm not sure i would ever want to be 'massive' anyway.

i come from a family where the males are of the tall, slim variety. Its genetic. I was skinny as a kid growing up, i was skinny as a young adult.  My bloodline is just not geared up for being naturally big.  Whilst in the forces, where in fairness, i had everything i could have possibly needed to get beefy, i didnt have the maturity, knowledge or perhaps even the desire at that time.  When i did use the abundance of facilities that were available, it was for physio from injuries.

As a slimmer guy, i was reasonably happy with my build anyway, after all, it was the hand i was dealt with.  However, i always wanted to get a little bigger. (i was typically 11stone or less @ 5'11).

Not really sure what im saying here, all i know is that i'm not young anymore and i have to accept that there are limits to what i can achieve, however, i am determined to break the genetic mould from which i was cast and become at the very least, larger.

picked the bench up, looks fine and sits under the squat stands fine. result.

did some bench work last night, flat press, incline press (very slight incline) and followed up with some bi and tri work.

i am still shocked by how much less i am able to lift from previously, however, i'm happy to accept the lower weight and concentrate on good, slow form.
                    Flat:
                    27.5 x10/10 warm up
                    37.5 x8/8/8
                    Incline:
                    37.5 x8/8/8

i'll probably leave the bench on the slight incline and not bother about flat, as i have to undo and refit a bolt everytime it needs the angle changing and i cant be arsed with that.  Its currently set on such a slight incline that its practically flat anyway.

                      weigh in this morn, 84kg

missus has been feeling a bit run down and ill lately, so we decided to get a chinese delivered.  Usually, we (i) would have sat there and stayed there until eventually, the whole lot had been eaten.  Regardless as to wether i was going to explode.  But we (i) were beaten last night.  Boiled rice, singapore vermecelli noodles, chicken balls, beef in black bean sauce, sea spiced chicken.  Had 2 decent sized platefuls and had to stop.

Any guesses as to what i have in my packed lunch today??

Got some benching in last night, inbetween cutting some graphics.  Couldnt get anything more done though due to teething baby.  Weight went up a bit and not feeling particularly sore today, so muscles are starting work again and i'll be moving the weights up again next time.

                        Incline Bench

                          squats last night
                          2x warmup sets
                          67.5 x8/8/8
bench pullovers between each set for a good stretch.

The missus has decided that she wants to train, specifically to target the girly fatty bits that ladies get between the breast and shoulder.

This bothers me a little. Not because she wants to do some training, but because its in 'my' garage.  I've spent months/years telling her about the big, crunchy spiders in there so that she wont go in the garage.  it's my little place of respite, and the place of my hidden ashtray for the occassional ciggy.

So i unloaded the bar and put a couple of kg's on and had her do squats, although she couldn't reach parallel, i'm sure once she's gotten used to handling the bar and the muscle set get used to the movement then hopefully she'll get lower.  Did a couple of sets of 8, with bench pull overs between, then bench press. 2 sets of 8, then i told her i was upping the weight a touch and she looked in a panic, but she drove through a set of 8 with the last 2 being slightly assisted.

this is cool as im sure we'll be good encouragement for each other.

I also need to work out some kind of routine for the missus, but as she has totally different goals to me, i'm not sure how to approach that one. maybe i'll ask in the training forums.

decided i should stop adding the bar weight on to my stats and just list the plate's, save me messing about adding things up.
                            monday:
                            Squats - 40kg warmup x10
                                           65kg x10/10/10
                            B.P - 40kg x8/8/6
                            B.O.R - fail - elbow problem
                            D/B Skull crushers - 8kg x8/8/8
                            D/B Curls - fail - elbow problem

was getting a sharp pain in my left elbow when doing 'pull' motions, so opted out to prevent injury.  Elbow has been troubling me for a month or so now, maybe i'll give it another couple of weeks then get it checked.

short shelf date on them, but date is may 2010 so shouldnt be a problem.

had a read of Rippetoe's Starting Strength routine, and although not too dissimilar to my own, i thought i'd change mine to more or less match.

                                A
                                Squat 3x5
                                Bench Press 3x5
                                Deadlift 1x5
                                *Tricep extension

                                B
                                Squat 3x5
                                Military Press 3x5
                                BO Rows 3x5
                                *Curls 2x8

                                * I added these in.

                                So i did A last night.  2 warmup sets of squats 10kg x15, 20kg x15
                                Squats 65kg 5/5/5
                                BP 35kg 5/5/5
                                DL 60kg 5
                                Tri's 8.5kg 8/8

The 3rd set of BP i had to stop on the 3rd rep as my left elbow went. I racked the bar and gave myself a minute to compose myself then went for it again.  I'll put the weights up next time by 2.5kg on the lifts.

feel like manflu setting in, but will still do what i can tonight.

Had a sit down with the missus over the weekend, to work out our incoming, outgoing, debt management etc.  Its going to be tight for a while so will have to be careful, this might slow my bulk down but on the flip side, i can continue training and shed some of the bf% away.

Also, received a date for a school reunion. Been 20 years.  Do i really want to bump into these people again? been trying to avoid them for 20 years!  If i go, i want to look awesome.  I was a skinny kid at school so really want to look beefier.  So i got until mid august.

                                    Warmup - Squats 10kg x15, 20kg x8, 35kg x8
                                    B
                                    Squats 67.5kg 5/5/5
                                    Military Press (barbell) 25kg 5/5/5
                                    BOR's 30kg 5/5/5
                                    Curls (D/B) 10kg 8/8

Could definitely have gone heavier on all.  Will add 2.5kg to squat and 10kg on MP and BOR next time round.

                                      Thursday 'A'
                                      Squat 70kg 5/5/5
                                      Bench 40 5/5/5

                                      Deadlift 65 /5
                                      Tri's 10 8/8

                                      Saturday 'B'
                                      Squat 72.5 5/5/5
                                      Mil Press 30 5/5/5
                                      BO Rows 35 5/5/5
                                      Curls 10 8/8

Had an Ebay result, and i won a pair of 25kg plates for £45. Had to drive 45 mins each way to collect them on sunday morning, but an excellent deal all the same.  Seeing as we're on a tight budget at the moment, they started at £40 and i set my highest bid at £45 and had decided that i couldnt afford any more than that and if they went higher then i would just have to miss out.  Expected to be outbid by something silly like .50p, but my luck was in.

                                      Monday 'A'
                                      Squat 75kg 5/5/5
                                      Bench Press 50kg 5/4/5  *FAIL*
                                      Deadlift 70kg /5
                                      Tri's 10kg 8/8

The 25's made it SO much easier to load the bar, instead of pishing about with 10's and 5's then 2.5's!  It also encouraged me to make a bigger step with the bench press... previous was 40, had planned to go to 45 but couldnt see the point of taking the 25's of, so stepped up to 50 instead.  Failed on the middle set, regrouped and just squeezed out the final set.  Hopefully get all 3 sets next time.
