PROTEIN - 1g/lb bodyweight or lean bodyweight? 14 January 2012 20:53 (permalink)
As above

Everything Ive read chooses one of these as the 'minimum' protein intake for weight trained people.

I aim for 1g / lb body weight as that's more protein, but surely their can be a big difference in these numbers if the individual has a high bodyfat %?

I'd say less would be appropriate if you're >18% or so.
But then age also comes in as a factor.

There are so many determining factors that the range is generally given as 0.8-1.2g/lb bodyweight.

Personally I aim for 1g per pound of lean body mass - but even that is just a ball park figure. What works for one might not work for another. I can bulk on hitting not much more than 1g per pound of lean mass - for others they'd scream that they'd be wasting away haha.

Yeah as robbie says, its lean mass so take off the fat % first

When considering an absolute minimum, due to variation in bodyfat I'd opt for % of total weight as bf% is also often over estimated.
