Paris ? any French there ?

Just asking has anyone been lately, I spent a week there last July and it was the worst week of my life ! we stayed in the Gare de Nord area and tbh hardly ever seen any French people, well no natives, just many different nationalities, poo in the streets, drunks, pimps was aweful, the cheap hotel was even worse, in the toilet was half a door, not the quaint country style half a door but literally a big piece missing from where it was meant to close, it was also the size of a phone box, I guess you get what you pay for, the whole week I was on full alert, wound up like a spring, terrible, anyone else any horror stories ?

Zero interest in visiting Paris, or any other major city for that reason, precisely because of this. IME capital cities are rarely, if ever, representative of nations. Capital cities are, invariably, representative of the "pays legal" not the "pays reel."

Yeah like England, once you get out of the Cities, France is a beautifull country and many French rural people live quite a simple village life still which is something we seem to be loosing here. French people I find are very proud and can be rude but generally it is our fault. I find if you make the effort to speak french (even if you are not that good) they are some of the nicest people you can meet. Go there and make no effort and they will dismiss you, and who can blame them!

Been to Paris a couple of times to see gigs acyually. First time in 2007 when the Pumpkins reformed and played the grand rex, and the second time to see Metallica at the Bercy. Did a fair bit of sightseeing too and was very disappointed in the city, totally opposite to the romantic city I'd pictured. Everywhere just seemed 'dirty'. Not helped by the fact that the first thing i saw when emerging from the Metro was a man walking along the street with no trousers or pants urinating as he walked.

Yah, I've only been once but I remember it being filthy, which is the worst thing a place can be for me. I avoid dirty places at all costs! I think I also saw a semi-naked man in Paris. I saw a naked guy cycling along Oxford St about 2 years ago. I even managed to get a photo with my camera phone. He was sporting a pink back-pack. LOL
