Phytic Acid (Antinutrients)
08 January 2012 17:37

Grains are full of nutrients that are essential for good health, but they're also full of phytic acid which rob the body of these nutrients. What kind of sick joke is this?!!?!?

Well, grains weren't designed to be eaten and the plant has evolved methods of defending it's investment, but all foods have pro's and con's. Keep the diet varied and not reliant on too small a selection of foods and you'll have to worry a lot less about these things.

Since reading up on this subject I'm really starting to notice just how much the average diet relies upon grains. I just can't imagine what the world would be like if everyone on the planet decided to go 'paleo'.

Either way we're stuck. Agriculture as it stands to feed >7bn mouths is going to be impossible when oil becomes scarce.

yeah, got way disgusted as I've learned aboyt phytic acid recently ,needless to say long grain rice is the only grain cyurrenly on the menu for me. bit of potatoes and avoid the sweet ones as they usually comes from the states, non organic and who knows what **** is in them, that's about the carbs and no nuts here either, cravings for any kind of food just skyrocket and still not touching anthing,

anti-nutrients are not just found in grains im certain i read some types of meat either raw or cooked prevent you from getting certain nutrients as well. So have a varied diet using various cooking methods and you should be fine.

... name a food and there will be one or more nutritive issues or classes of 'anti nutrients', this is especially so when talking about plant foods. As above, it one more reason not to put all your nutritional eggs in one basket. Variety is a good idea.

So, if professional nutrition scientists don't know what is going on with regards to diet, how do you? I am afraid you seem to have lost track of the big picture regarding nutrition ... always keep and open mind. There's plenty that will be missing from your constricted diet that you could get in a broader one. There's tens of thousands probably hundreds of thousands of compounds that comprise our diet, surely you can see the hubris in say 'I have done my research and now only eat these'. Also remember some compounds that put stress on the body do so in a beneficial way. If it works for you now, fine, no telling where it will lead long term though.
